Disagree...think he's the meanest, nastiest OL we have...
Which isn't really saying much.
really? With allpro Ragnow, probowl worthy Decker...and it's not saying much that Sewell is a Captain and the guy always in the face of the D on late hits, shit talkers, etc? Really? To be honest, You're such a shit stirrer, I'm not sure if you're being serious or if this a cry for attention. I can see where this came from after a last second move to the opposite side of where he played the past 2+ years...but let's not get twisted...he is elite and will be elite for years to come...you can't just throw a guy to the opposite side and say be elite, with no practice....give the guy a training camp on the left side and I'm sure he dominates there too
... I see Hutchinson as a great player, could be a top 10 edge rusher in the league at some point, but I don't feel like he is or ever will be on the level of guys like Garrett, the Bosa's, etc. It just seems like he's elite when it's an easier match up, but when he's double teamed or schemed around, he doesn't step up like the truly elite ones do. Not saying he can't develop into that at some point, but I feel like with guys like the Bosa's (and even Sewell), you knew right away they were special.
several thoughts on this...
1. I know what you're saying and don't necessarily disagree, but..Garrett and Bosa didn't exactly come out the box as their dominant selves...like Hutch, good stats, but nothing mind blowing...they've really dominated the last 2-3 yrs, but weren't the elite forces they are today from day 1
2. I'm not sure it's fair to judge Hutch against them...I don't think he's the same type of player as them and don't think he's being asked to do the same things as them. I feel (without watching Bosa and Garrett every week) that hutch is playing more read-react than straight edge rush like they are
3. Furthermore, both SF and CLE are stacked on the front 7 compared to the lions, imo, so he draws ALL the extra help, not some like the other guys
That said...I may even agree he does not seem to be elite like them...but he doesn't have to be. His non stop energy and 100% effort sets a tone...it exemplifies what the coaches preach and gives something the coaches, and team can look to...the type of player he is transcends individual stats...he is the embodiment of grit...you give me 22 Hutchinson and you are looking at championships, elite or not...
All valid points, well said.

When I break down the "film" (which I do sometimes when I'm bored), I see their MO as being technically sound; getting leverage, being in the right position, working as a unit. They're not really what I'd call "punishing," but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
To be honest, You're such a shit stirrer, I'm not sure if you're being serious or if this a cry for attention.
Oh please, Felix. How old are we? Very little of what I've said here through the years has been all that brash or controversial in the grand scheme. Pretty tame stuff, actually. Just roll with it, dude.

Here's the video. Penei pep talk and stare down. Dude is an absolute Dog. Love it. 2:29 ish
Yea, twinkletoes really knows how to give a pep speech and look mean.
Just before he goes out there and flashes all that technique.
"Don't mess with us or I'll look at you mean."
At least the dude's an elite athlete and gets in people's way so they can't make a play. But he needs to stop pretending he's all "mean and badass." He's not. He's just a good athlete with great technique. If his game was based on physicality, he wouldn't get so confused when he moves from one side to the other because he'd just be going out there leveling people.

Your talking about a guy that has not given up a sack and only two QB pressures, while wiping with his left hand playing out of position.
These players are darn good at this level, to be saying since he doesn't have pancake blocks makes him not dominant? Another thing I will say is Sewell is not a huge tackle, average in size in comparison to like Decker. 6'4 330, and only 22 YO. He is a kid. Pancake blocks are between the tackles are very very rare in the NFL. You see them on highlight reels when SEC schools play a WAC school at the college level, usually week 1 kinda games when the score is 68 to 3 in the 3rd quarter. I don't see Ragnow pancaking anyone either.

He's usually busy taking out two defenders. I've given up trying to fault Ragnow with anything. He's just the man. Dude plays with a toe that's not even a toe at this point and has no business dominating but somehow he manages.

I don't fault Ragnow at all, not sure who does here
But I see Sewell just as effective as Ragnow
I was kinda' hoping he'd be more effective (than Ragnow) at this point.
Just assumed it would be a foregone conclusion that by year 3, he'd push Decker to RT, and be one of the top 3 LTs (if not #1), first-team all-pro, etc etc

He seems to be more effective than Ragnow, not sure what exactly you are looking for. I feel like neither do you.
I was hoping for more than just "one of the better Right Tackles in the league" at this point in his career.
When I do this search, I want to see his picture and name pop up. That will be my gauge. If his name and image show when I put that in a search, we'll be headed in the right direction.
They have Sewell at #10 OT in the NFL. Not right tackle, overall 10 in the NFL.
Took me 3 minutes on google
Just 10 ????
Based on his size, strength and athleticism, that's under-achieving. You can't tell me there are 9 other guys in the NFL with that combination.
I know you're trolling and/or just as bored as I am, but I'll bite anyway.
Several things on that list: - I think all but 1 or 2 of the guys on that list outside of Sewell are LT. RT never gets the same respect of LT. - One of the guys on that list (Wirfs) just switched to LT and had to see a shrink because of it. - I completely disagree with putting Darrisaw and Thomas ahead of Sewell. Especially Thomas who is so inconsistent. - Sewell is the youngest one on that list.

It's not like I've come up with nicknames like chubbyface or called him a bust. Pretty sure the harshest criticism I've had for the guy is that he's super athletic but "not quite as amazing as I'd hoped."
I swear the pearl-clutchers on this board have been so traumatized by the big, mean internet trolls over the years, their PTSD has them on over-alert status. We're looking at a pretty low bar here.
He's a 22 year old kid, playing RT and already considered a top 10 OT in the NFL.
What does that rank him as RT? Top 3 for sure. I'd take that all day any day for a young guy headed into his 3rd year at 22 YO with a lot more upside. Those other top OTs been around a lot longer in the NFL too. I think he will get there and can be a top 3 NFL OT when it's all said an done.
