For the first time in a long time, the Lions are potentially buyers this year as the trade deadline approaches. Holmes & Co have never shown any tendencies to make a big splash move in the past, but this is also the first time since he's been there where they're actually in a position to make some noise in the post season. Holmes also said something that I thought was interesting in his interview the other day with The Insiders where he referenced how last year they were 1-6 at the trade deadline and wished the deadline was later when teams have a better idea of where they stand.
All that said, I don't love the idea of mortgaging the future for a Crosby or Burns type, but it sure sounds enticing. I think I'd rather go for some mid to lower level guys to add depth. One guy I really would have liked is Van Jefferson, but the Rams already traded him. I thought maybe the Holmes connection would have brought him over. Not sure what a guy like Danielle Hunter would cost. Or Courtland Sutton. Jeudy was a beast at Alabama and had a solid start to his career but seems mental now. Not sure what DBs would be available.

Crosby is a perfect fit with play style and culture. Gonna cost a ton to get him and not sure Raiders could pull it off with the cap, didn’t he just sign that deal?
Burns would be great, too. Maybe cheaper, but the downside with him is he’s a FA after this year.
I’m probably fine with where they’re at at WR.
CB is where they could use some help with Moseley gone. Just don’t know what’s available and who would be willing to sell. Most of the teams that may be sellers seem weak in secondary. Sounds like Denver isn’t letting Surtain go.
Also Holmes has to balance whether the move will shake up things in a negative way. Guys seem close in that locker room and bringing in someone that takes snaps or someone’s starting job may hurt that. So definitely has to be careful.
I worry about the depth, especially if St. Brown has to miss multiple games at some point. We have no idea what we have in Jamo...Reynolds' surge has been nice, but at the end of the day he's still JAG. I like Kalif a lot and he brings a lot to the table with special teams, blocking, etc, but if St. Brown is out for an extended period I think the passing game will be in trouble.

If St. Brown goes down it’s a problem, trade or no trade. I wouldn’t give up anything of value for what’s likely out there unless Holmes is 100% confident in it upgrading the spot and it’s not gonna create locker room issues in that group.
Reynolds is good, but he is smallish between the tackles and could not get much going in the run game.
Neither could Montgomery. Tampa is a pretty good run defense.
Assuming Montgomery's missing 2 games, not sure it's worth blowing things up for some JAG. I mean, maybe if you can pluck someone's practice squad, or do the old player and a 7th for a 6th, or a conditional 6th.

If the Lions could spend and add a piece to compete for a run this season, an argument could be made defensively. But also I would say RB. We can't expect Goff to do that every tight game where the running game is non-existant. Montgomery was starting to gain some momentum. Montgomery will not hold up. He is getting too many carries. There should be a complimentary back between the tackles.

What available RB fits that description that is better than what they already have?

Eagles trade for Byard. I know he's probably past his prime but still a solid player, cheap and they didn't give up much. Seems like Roseman is playing chess when everyone else is playing checkers.
6 days...gawd Im tired of the Trade Rumors, Trade ideas, trade suggestions, etc, that are flooding my news feeds...I miss the days of reporting and opinions were kept to the editorial sections....
