I wasn't any more impressed by this game than I was the Ravens game.
We just played a much weaker opponent.
Lions were completely dominated in the Red Zone. Asses handed to them.
Against a decent or even average team, that would have been an embarrassing loss. Yea, sure, Jahmyr Gibbs put on a show, which amounted to nothing more than setting up field goals.

A few random general observations from the game:
Playing with 3 backup o-linemen at G-C-G, I expected some pressure on Goff, which there was, and he didn't handle it terribly well (again). Most of his yardage came on YAC. However, rushing for over 200 yds with backups at G-C-G is quite an accomplishment. Keep in mind that when we played GB and they had 3 backup o-linemen in the game, we dominated the line of scrimmage. Missing most of our starting o-line, starting RB, starting Safety/Slot CB, etc. just reminds me that the depth on our roster is unlike any that we have ever had in the past 45+ years.
Like most RB's, Gibbs clearly needs to be fed the ball regularly to get his rhythym. The RB by committee approach can make it difficult for any RB to stay in the flow of the game. BTW, how would you like to see your wife grinding on Gibbs in the front row on national television? LOL!
It sure sounded like someone from the Raiders got hand on Patterson's 52 yd FG, and it also looked like the trajectory got altered on the replay, but the Buck/Aikman booth never mentioned it. Oh, and missing a 26-yd FG is cringe-worthy.
Goff now has thrown a pick-6 in two of our 4 home games. This game had a lot of similarities to the Seattle game, except Seattle's offense was able to actually move the ball.
The ruling of the fumble on Reynolds was complete BS.
Ben Johnson's "offensive genius" label is starting to look questionable. How do you have a TE blocking Crosby, or leave him unblocked on the Williams jet sweep? Crosby is the only real threat on the field for the Raiders, but we're gonna leave him unblocked? And WTF was that call on 2nd and goal from the 14 with the Raymond misdirection handoff? Two weeks in a row where Goff and Johnson haven't been on the same page. Against quality opponents, Johnson's play calling has been very vanilla.
I still think Hutchinson got injured on that pick against the Falcons. He hasn't been the same player since taking the hit to his knee.
Need to file a missing persons report on Cominsky. I see he's on the field, but you wouldn't know it.
5 red zone trips nets 13 points...not winning football

Yeah I wouldn’t shock me if Hutch has a deep bone bruise or something from that hit.
Also, that inside spin move is really impressive when he nails it. But he may go to the well a little too often with it. He got leveled at least a couple times on double teams when he went to it.
You guys are negative and don't know how to handle success. The Lions are playing complementary football and even with the turnovers, injuries and mistakes, they can still win football games. That is a great, because they have a big upside and will hopefully hit there peak in the playoffs.

This is true. We've never had a complementary team before😅😅😅 totally competitive too. This is the best Lions team I've seen since I was popped out into this world.

I wouldn't go so far as to call that display "complimentary."
Raiders offense just choked a lot more than ours. Garoppolo practically spoon-fed us every opportunity, Davonte Adams has not been himself. And let's not forget one of their featured backs was Ameer Abdullah.

Right now they are beating up on the chumps teams, unfortunately they really won't be tested it seems. Hopefully they can glide into the playoffs, but the concerns about not beating the top teams are very real. At least it is refreshing to be saying "playoffs"!!!

I actually agree...
However...
I am hoping they can get healthier in the second half of the season...
I am hoping they continue to gel and become an even more cohesive team, it feels strange to say, but more on O than D...
I am hoping the coaching staff (again, mostly O) has been just trying stuff out or setting stuff up for the future in games that are mostly in hand
While I am definitely concerned they may not match up against the top NFC teams...there is still time to get healthy and continue to grow. I feel a good part of the concerns are injury related, but the O leaves a lot of points on the field and the D gets a little lucky with drops...but who knows, if they get healthy and eagles have an injury or two late in the season, anything is possible...but feel Lions are still 1 year away...

I agree, and that is why I'm not upset that they didn't give up major draft capital for what could end up being a half year rental or could lock them into a long-term contract for a guy you don't even know for sure is a fit and could prevent you from being able to extend your homegrown talent.
I mean sure, the Raiders aren't good, but the Lions still won in primetime by double digits despite giving the ball up 3 times (with a pick 6), the ENTIRE interior O-line out, Montgomery out, Amon-ra sick, not to mention all the long-term injuries. Good teams win games like that.
There’s some concerns there, but watching some of the other teams. Not sure there’s any or many more than other top teams. It’s a pretty wide open league right now. Ther
5 of their 6 wins have been by 2 scores. That’s fairly significant, regardless of who you’re playing.

Out of 32 teams, how many teams would you consider a chump team, 80% of them? Parity is a real thing and the league is jumbled in the middle. Lions don't need to be tested against one of the very few elite teams in the NFL right now, they need to get healthy, improve every week and fire on all cylinders in the playoffs.

I have to admit that I have quickly become spoiled by our recent success. I have started to expect this team to win, which is an entirely foreign feeling. We have discussed Lions PTSD. It is a very real effect that may never completely go away. God help me if we ever get to a Superbowl. I will be an absolute nervous wreck the entire time.
I absolutely love the direction of this team, and often forget that just a couple years ago, we were 3-13-1. I must always try to stay aware of just how much has been accomplished by Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell in a few short years. This team is being built the right way, and is (hopefully) headed toward long-term success. We are not in win-at-all-cost mode for a single season. We are building toward sustained excellence. It is uncharted territory for this organization, and I'm thrilled to be along for the ride.
I will always look at things with a critical eye, but I still need the reminders that putting a consistently competitive product on the field is something to be cherished. Thanks for keeping me grounded!

Yes to your parity point, this season; 75-80% are chumps ...especially in the NFC
If we make it to the playoffs, only way they can beat Philly is if Philly has a lot of injuries. Cowboys, SF are winnable if we are healthy. those AFC teams are built different and have been beating our ass! I think we are a year out from a real SB run
I think Philly is the most talented team in the league, but watching them this year. They have some flaws. Defense has been inconsistent. Hurts hasn’t been quite as efficient as last year.

I think the Lions this year are similar to the Eagles last year and I can see them on that trajectory. The Eagles did make the Superbowl last year, but also got kind of lucky with the 49ers QB debacle in the playoffs. It would probably take something like that to happen for the Lions to make the Superbowl.
It's really unreal that the two players we signed to help at CB/S - CJ Garnder Johnson and Emmanuel Mosely are both out. That said, Cam Sutton is a baller. Thank God for that signing and Anzalone might be our best Def player right now.

In terms of talent, we're a quality CB away from superbowl contention. Jerry Jacobs should be depth and Will Harris should be mostly inactive. Not sure about the Jameson Williams experiment either. Could probably use another capable receiver.
Another concern is the way DC has the team playing. I'm not sure if he's being smart about it, or thinking long-term / full season. I love the energy, it's fun to watch, but I don't know how we can continue to field a healthy squad over a 17-game season let alone playoffs. The whole "play every play like it will be your last" philosophy; crying in every televised interview, going for it on 4th down all the time ... it's great theater but I'm skeptical with how it will play out over a full season, even if we start the season with a superbowl caliber team on paper.
That said, we seem to get hot towards the end of the season, so results have been the opposite and I could be completely wrong about that.

DT is a huge need
not if McNeil keeps delivering...but another one would be nice

Valid, and for depth.
I think the bigger need is for DC to refrain from crying in every televised interview though.
I mean, it's okay here and there, but I think it sends the wrong message when it's every interview. I get that this is their jobs and they are passionate about their jobs as they should be. But there are people out there in the world with much bigger problems and challenges on their plates than sports.

EVERY interview? REALLY? We get it Rusty, you don't like DC. He's literally cried in one interview (2 if you count the press conference last year). You should follow your own advice - The hypocrisy of Rusty Hilger
