When Reynolds dropped that first pass. Then Kerby was hurt. I felt the shift and immediately knew they lost. It's like Felix said. It's a sixth sense. When the pass off the face happened we were officially down the rabbit hole.

But, there was a flag on the ground in case the Lions caught that pass of the face, wasn't there?
I was rooting hard for you! When the ridiculous decision to run failed they should have rushed the fg team on. Still would have had three to's and could have kicked off.
I always thought Campbell was a meat head and he won me over a bit until the clock struck 12 tonight and he turned back into a meat head. Yes, the receiver should have caught the 4th down pass (maybe should have used his hands) but Andy Reid kicks there. Just smart football.
several mistakes. i do not like the montgomery series then gibbs series. it should be based on play need. montgomery should have been the rb on that play gibbs fumbled. up the middle, its montgomery, period. stupid play call to begin with and wrong player to handle it. several drops by reynolds and st brown. not elevating ertz was fucking ignorant. there is no way the clown TE we had in there was better than Ertz. Jamo had a great game. montgomery had a great game. Goff had some terrible passes to wide open recievers. i would seriously reconsider extending him. dont need a great season only to choke in the playoffs. thats his game. onto the draft. CB and DE top needs. OC will be crucial. we are likely stuck with Glenn another season.

After tonight's game he's 'All in the Family' material for sure. He should went for the FG's. It's a 6 point swing and if ya can't make 1 of 2, you've got issues. lol A lot of issues!
The kicker is not that great over 40 and that was no gimme FG attempt. The defense in the second half of games has been Swiss cheese all season long. It's a miracle we made it this far with our defense. We could not stop anybody after half time.
If we were going to win this game we had to keep the ball away from San Fran in the second half.
Our Wr Renolds dropped a key 4th down and another 3rd down pass, also the fumble inside our 20 was the difference makers.
We feel we overachieved with this group, especially on defense and made it further than anyone expected. Going for it was the right call.
Hey Guys, I thought of you all while watching my niners against the lions. What a great game. I read through your thread: I agree with those that say the 4th down stops and fumble (recovered by former Duck Arik Armstead) were the turning points. Also, what a stark difference between Lions receivers in the first half, and all the drops in the second half. They let the San Francisco Defense off the hook. Niners running D also picked up their game in the second half. They looked so inept to start the game, I was ready to pull my hair out.
Anyway, great season for Detroit. Jared Goff is the real deal. Take care of Penei Sewell; we miss him in Oregon. Watching him run 20 yards down the field to throw a block brought back memories from his college days. Cheers, Guys.

That's shocking though. the look on that poor kids face made me want to cry! Championship game man!! CRAZZZZY! He had that , i'm gonna tell my mom look! Big moments create big stars! but instead, nope you suck we're goin for it.
The first 4th and 2 call was the worst call in Lions history given the stakes. Momentum is a powerful thing in football and the risk vs the reward of giving up momentum and not going up by 3 scores was extremely bad. When the FG unit did not come out, I said, that if they don't get the first down and SF scores, the game is over. The second 4th and short call, was the second worst call in Lions history. Lions were moving the ball and controlling the clock, TAKE THE FUCKING POINTS! Also what is up with the two flee flicker passes!! Like I said, we were running the ball and making plays, why go with gimmick plays especially the second one. It's like OC was trying to prove the play would work.
Coaches did a great job getting the Lions to this point but this loss was completely on them.

Absolutely agree Tech, momentum is everything. Lions lost focus on the turnover on downs! Aggressiveness is good when applied correctly, but Campbell blew it in Dallas, and he blew it last night.
That one hurt...more than 0-16. The team had something special going for it and then it was a team loss. Even with a talented young roster, no guarantees you are back here soon. Only news that would take away some of this sting is if Ben Johnson announces his return. I don't expect it.
Dan Campbell single handedly cost them this game. The gameplan for the second half should have been this simple...Sustain long drives, eat up clock, and score points on every possession. Dan got aggressive when he did not need to and the momentum swung immediately thereafter. The disappointment of the fans and the young men in that locker room lies solely on his shoulders. I hope he learns from this. They'll get another chance.
I still love me some Dan Campbell, but that was shit decision making and if he does not recognize it, the Lions will never get further than the playoffs.
Play aggressively to get to the big games. Play smart to stay in it.

Momentum shmomentum. Badgley is statistically the worst kicker in NFL history from 40+ yards, and that one would have been 48. DC made the right decision but the players let him down. Reynolds is usually so reliable too. Even the analytics said go for it and that doesn't factor in having a terrible kicker.

I have to disagree, BB. Mike Badgely has been in the NFL since 2018. His accuracy is as follows:
Inside the 30 yard line - 96.4% From the 30 to 40 - 96.6% From the 40 to 50 - 77% From 50 plus - 38.4%
In 2023 the Lions converted 52% of their 4th downs. 77% for the field goal to 52% success to convert 4th down. I kick the field goal every time, because the odds are much more favorable!!
This team overachieved big time and we got here because of the offense.
The second half collapse is something we have seen most of the season. This game would have been won on offense, and Reynolds makes 1 of those two drops...Gibbs does not fumble...this is a win! St Brown also had some drops, who was a stud was fucking Jamo with 2 TDs!
The success is 100% because of this offense, not the defense which has been below average. You go for it!

I saw that Badgley was 9-20 career from 48+ on his career and his outdoor numbers are even worse.
Lions are were also 15-20 on 4th and 3 or less this year.
Reynolds can also just catch the ball, twice. Same with Vildor. Gibbs could also not fumble on the 25. Jamo could haul in that one that went through his hands. Iffy could finish that sack. I could keep going…If going for it on 4th caused the players to make all those mistakes, then they deserved to lose because they’re clearly weak minded and not good enough.
The criticism Campbell(and Johnson), should be taking is the 3rd and goal run. Also not taking a TO before 2 min warning. That was bad clock management.

The weather was excellent, warm with no wind. Both FGs would have been 48 yards or less. Badgely had been striking the ball well all night and sending it straight thru the uprights. All field conditions were good. I believe he would have made both attempts and the Lions would have won the game, 37 to 34. Instead, both 4th down attempts were turnovers and provided an additional momentum swing to the Niners where they scored every time.

You’re assuming everything plays out the same with that score. That’s now how it works. We have no idea.
Also, conditions can be what they are, Badgley hasnt kicked an outdoor FG of that distance since 2020.
And momentum didn’t make guys drop passes, fumble, or allow Purdy to scramble. I’m not someone who thinks momentum doesn’t exist, but some people put way too much stock in it. The Lions have had issues with the 3rd quarter and second half all season. This wasn’t new and if a failed 4th down conversion caused those players to commit all those errors, they were going to lose anyway. If they can’t bounce back from that in the 3rd quarter, then this team is weak minded and doesn’t deserve it.
