Kind of surprised. Guess they’re giving him a shot to maybe catch on somewhere else. He’s a dime a dozen back, not gonna give you anything special, but not gonna hurt you either.
Maybe only keeping 3 with Bawden or maybe looking for a little more upside out of 4th back.
Could be a Avion Cason arrangement where they have him on speed dial, I'd like them to keep the 3 RBs and Bawden but it appears this is a sign Thompson is in.
Liked Zenner but not surprised. And Perez had nothing to do with the move. Perez won’t make the roster. Just backup for last pre season game. More than likely the Lions are going for OL help after releasing Zenner and might alreadyvhave someone in mind or clearing cap space for a trade. Loving their no nonsense attitude.

Zenner was around last year when they needed him. He may catch on somewhere, but could still be around later in the year l because he’s gonna likely be bottom of roster guy at a position with heavy turnover.
Lions also brought Justin Stockton back after letting him go last week.
Not really sure why they would resign Justin Stockton and then the next day release Zenner.
Zenner may have requested or they may have done it as a courtesy to get him out there before teams do final cuts and market is flooded.
I figured as much, but unless he was told he won't make the team, why would they just drop him and then go on to sign 2 other RBs (granted they are probably signed just to get them through the last preseason game). Just seems strange without there being some other issue and is anyone gonna sign him now before cuts? Maybe its as simple as guys like Thompson just look better than ZZ.

That would be my guess. They may have told him they were going to go a different direction and would let him go early to hit the market before the market is crazy. I think the other guys on the roster are practice squad eligibile(not sure about Thompson), Zenner isn’t.
Ty Johnson has huge upside as well. Kerryon is a bonafide star if he stays healthy. And CJ brings rough yards. Thank God Ragnow only suffered a sprain. If the O -line puts in work, the RB situation will be exciting to watch this year.
Oh and for the record, Zenner wasn't that great. Mediocre at best. D. Washington had better potential and they should have kept him last year. Even when they cut...brace yourself...G. Winn and kept Zenner, I thought it was a mistake. Guess I was right.
