So you thought they should make no changes to the staff?
I think Vic is saying they should have blown it up (yet again). I don't necessarily disagree, but I'm also at a point where it is what it is and until the Fords/Firestones sell the team it doesn't really matter what they do. So for now I say keep the Quinntricia carnival going one more year and see what happens.
Yes
You have to, why gut the staff? This will only hinder the coaches further. Not saying some changes didnt need to be made, but they made the wrong changes. You take away the coaches staff...you dont trust the hires they made...may as well get rid of the coach at that point.
The only narrative I am not buying is that people are claiming that the owner(s) are responsible for the coaching firings. Has that been confirmed in the media?
Because last I heard Quinn say that all coaching decisions were Patricia's decisions.
Now is it out of the realm that there is a little "circle of trust" that decisions are made on personnel and coaches, probably, but not going to assume this is owner meddling.
There was a report that Martha mandated changes had to be made to the coaching staff.

I don’t think Vic knows what he’s saying. He just comes in and yells football cliches and makes up stupid nicknames. If you think they should have cleaned house, fine, that’s reasonable. But with Patricia staying, not sure how you complain that they make changes on the staff. It was clearly necessary.
In reality, Vic should be the last person to bitch. For years he’s bitched and complained for the Lions to build a team exactly how Quinn and Patricia have built this team. Big, slow, and determined to run and stop the run.
My nicknames are great
Secondly.. if the Lions built a team like I suggested they could stop the run and run the ball and cant do both at all. Since when does a team have to be "Big and Slow" that has a good run defense and running game? Since the Lions lacked a running game it has killed the offense since Stafford went down. Since they cant stop the run (or pass for that matter) we gave seen the worst defense in 20 years in the NFL.
But hey maybe your right, the Lions are doing great there Sadnews8675309.

Down the stretch when they went 0-8 they actually ran the ball and stopped the run better than they did in the first half of the season. They averaged 110 yards a game, would have been 15th in the league, how did that turn out for them? On D they allowed 96, that would have been good for 6th in the NFL. How did that turn out? And before you make the well why would anyone run when they can throw on then with ease...they couldn’t stop the pass in the first half of the season either. They built this team in the 1990 mold that you’ve been begging for and you’re pissed at the results.
I know complex things are difficult for you Vic, but wanting the whole thing gutted isn’t unreasonable. But, here’s the thing, they didn’t do that. So with that said, you thought they shouldn’t make any changes on the coaching staff?

That is sloppy journalism at best. DSN is just a fan site. MLive is a bunch of wannabes. Whenever I see something that says, "according to report" or "an insider close to the situation" without being more clear all it is is opinions trying to get clicks on a website. Could it be true, yes I won't deny it. But unless one of those in the Ivory tower had mentioned it in the closed meeting to select reports or in the letter to the fans, I don't buy they mandated firings to assistants. If I am wrong, who fucking cares. they own the team, it is not like they can't do whatever they want with it.
Although Blaming Bobby might just be Arnold Powell, so I could see why you might defend it.

Take it easy man. I just said there were reports of it and you asked where they were and I provided it. The original reports I read were from Tweets so I just searched and that was the first page that came up. Could have been a bunch of malarkey but they did end up firing 6 coaches so there could have been something to it.

Take what easy...I wasn't pissed off or anything. But I question the "reports" when the only mention is a fan website taken from a less than credible news site. But if it was true why didn't the Freep or News or whatever mention it. That's all I am saying. I just don't think speculation is truth and should be represented as such.
There’s 0% chance the staff was going to stay as is, whether Ford’s said they wanted changes or not. I’m not sure why it’s such a big topic.
I agree with you, but this whole thread turned into the notion that the owners TOLD Patricia he needed to fire assistant coaches when I don't believe that to be true. That's all. If people don't like it, let it die and move on and I won't response ever. I am not like some posters who only live to be right.

Fair enough. I thought you were attacking me for believing the reports. I'm not even sure if I do, but Kyle Meinke is pretty well connected and respected and he's the one that said it.

Oh that make sense, Kyle Meinke is garbage in my opinion. But he definitely is a voice to the fans.
If I was attacking you I would just call you an idiot or something juvenile. No worries.

I think all the beat guys said it at some point or another.
Prove me wrong...
Here’s an article from Birkett with this quote...
“Patricia is expected to make significant changes to his defensive coaching staff this offseason, something ownership made clear when it announced its decision earlier this month to retain Patricia for the 2020 season.”
“Patricia is expected to make significant changes to his defensive coaching staff this offseason, something ownership made clear when it announced its decision earlier this month to retain Patricia for the 2020 season.”
I am pretty sure I am getting to semantics at this point. But what you just quoted up there is not a mandate by the owners, sounds like Patricia knew he was going to have to move somethings around and that maybe that was what convinced the owners to give him another chance versus firing.
Either way, I am done on this topic, it is pointless at this point.
Patricia won't want to hire a DC that can make his own decisions. If he hires anyone at all it will be another puppet he can control.
Agreed
Especially after DC's see what happened to Pasqualoni being the sacrificial lamb to appease the fanbase so the Lions can show they are committed to "real changes" and winning football from this organization...lol
