He's a great player, but not wise to pay huge money to 30 y.o CB...(Josh Norman) He's here for 1 more year, let somebody else make that mistake. What say you all

He’d be dumb to say he wants less. There’s a couple young CB’s that will probably set the market though and he’s not getting as much as them, here or anywhere else.
He ain't playing without a new contract this year.
I expect the Lions to blow their wad and give him a terrible contract. Or the more likely scenario, he gets shipped for a 3rd round pick.
Quinn offers New England #3 pick, Slay...For New England #1, #2 and both #3 compensatory picks plus a #6 and #7 compensatory. New England drafts Tua and the dynasty continues..
Yeah the Lions are in a tough spot. Hard to pay that much for a 30 year old guy who didn't have a great year last year that likes to talk shit in the media. Then again, they need him being Quinn hasn't build enough depth on that roster.
It’s not a depth issue. Slay’s a top level CB, those guys don’t grow on trees.
He also just turned 29 last month.
Can the Lions let him walk?
If the Lions don't pay him he will hold out, then what? What is the plan? Who takes his spot?
Depends on what they do in the draft and FA.
But again, that’s not a depth issue. There’s not a team in the league that if they were in this situation would be able to just shrug the shoulders and say we’re prepared for this.
Love Slay and everything hes done and how hes done it. A great professional. That said, dont see 15 mil for him, hate to see hin go, but thats a lot of money...
I also dont see him holding out...he'll skip camp and show up when he is supposed to, like last year...
Slay on the way out? Now Slay is reportedly on the block. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday that the Lions are looking to trade the three-time Pro Bowl cornerback as he approaches the final year of his contract.
Adam Schefter ✔ @adamschefter Lions have spoken with multiple teams about a potential trade for Pro Bowl CB Darius Slay, per sources. Any team that trades for Slay would have to compensate Detroit and Slay with a new deal. Other teams believe Slay will be traded this off-season, but Lions adamant on value.
Better be a good return and they better be players on top CB’s.
I could see a Josh Norman signing for cheap and Slay being traded for at least a #3 and maybe #5 with the #3. Unfortunately this team needs more than Slay. I like him, and I like his play..but that is the Patriot way. Deal him for draft picks and possibly a player plus a draft pick. The player would probably be a depth player, would be great if it was a promising DL player. The Better the pass rush, the better the Defensive backfield plays. You could see that last year with the declining pass rush the DB's were exposed and the results were pretty ugly. Trending now is the microscope being placed on Offensive Pass Interference. That will help the DB's some..

He doesn't deserve to be the highest paid CB in the league. He never has been nor will he ever be the best CB in the league.
If he can't accept that, let some other team pay him. The only thing that would suck about trading Slay is that the Lions would be showing their hand and will have to draft Okudah.

Slay is getting a lot of love out there with at least 6 teams Raiders, Broncos, Giants, Chiefs, 49ers, Chargers, Tampa Bay all in discussions or musing about acquiring Mr Slay. Seems he is rated as the 5th Best DB out there now...Interesting..

Other teams believe Slay will be traded this off-season, but Lions adamant on value. Between need, their slew of draft picks and available cap space, the Raiders could be a perfect fit for a trade with the Lions. Let's start with how Slay would fit in the defense.
Mullen is expected to man one side of the defensive backfield at cornerback, while the other side is a bit of a mystery. Daryl Worley is a free agent this offseason, but Nevin Lawson, Nick Nelson, Keisean Nixon and Isaiah Johnson all are options. None are Slay, though. Not even close.
Trade rumors for Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay are heating up, and members of the Seattle Seahawks are weighing in.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Lions have "spoken with multiple teams about a potential trade" that would involve the three-time Pro-Bowler. Conversations with prospective teams include a new contract with Slay as part of the deal. The 29-year-old is in the final year of his four-year, $48.15 million contract.
The Eagles desperately need some help at cornerback and one of the top ones in the game is reportedly available.
Of course the Eagles should be interested.

Via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the 49ers veteran cornerback said that Slay doesn’t get the respect he deserves because he’s on a perpetually struggling team.
“Slay doesn’t get enough credit and that’s, once again, the market he’s in and sometimes the team doesn’t have a lot of success,” Sherman said. “But he’s one of the quickest, most athletic cornerbacks in our game. Outstanding ball skills. I think over the last five or six years, he has the most pass breakups and interceptions.
“He’s a ball hawk, man. He’s a ball-hawking guy and I have the utmost respect for his game and I enjoy watching him play.”
Sherman said he watches tape of other cornerbacks ever year, and put Slay among the short list of top cover men in the league, along with Stephon Gilmore, Tre’Davious White, Jalen Ramsey, A.J. Bouye, Chris Harris and Xavien Howard.

Is this a report or your opinion?
A few tidbits out there...I posted a few. The list is growing by the hour.
Pay him, in 2 years he'll be the 5th or 6th highest paid CB. This team needs to fully realize that overpaying is something crap organizations have to do to retain or gain talent.

I don't know if it is possible, but it seems like they can do just about anything with contract and how they affect the salary cap. But can they just give him an extension that counting against the cap would be the biggest burden within the first two years? They basically would need to sign him to a contract that give the team an easy out in 2 years, because I see his game going the way of Glover Quin come the 2022 season.
