Bob Quinn said today that he didn't draft OL because they are happy with it. Really, other than RG I think we're OK.
How in the hell can they be happy with the available IOL they have on the roster. If they expect Aboushi to man the RG they should look at Seattle 2017 season. Aboushi is a slightly better backup than Kenny Wiggins and they both suck. Bevel should know better, he was the OC for goodness sake.
Apparently the Lions have signed UDFA Ryan Pope from San Diego State. The kid is 6'7" and weighs 320 pounds. He played Right Tackle for last 3 years and is a mauler. The guaranteed money is 165,000 dollars. That is a lot of money, so I guess he will probably make the team. Is he the new RG? Maybe that is what Quinn is happy about.

That's concerning. We have no RG and Wagner will be lucky to have a full year in him.
Well be realistic. What do expect him to say? he’s not going to throw players under the bus. There’s still a lot of time to add OL through cuts and trades.
Stafford was under duress and they struggled with run blocking
They were average. Run blocking was fine when it wasn’t Blount they were blocking for and pass protection wasn’t bad when they had viable WR’s out there and not guys that will be in XFL next year.
I’m not that upset they didn’t draft a RG. They basically needed a replacement level guy there with the youth and investments they have put in to rest of OL.
Getting Beau as a UDFA is a nice addition though, he should be able to compete.
Pope is interesting because they guaranteed him the kind of money that would make you think they expect him to compete for a roster spot and not just camp out of PS. Crazy athleticism for a guy his size, but really raw.

I agree for the most part but I would add they were wildly inconsistent all year in pass protection. Not sure how much of that was talent vs scheme vs injuries and seemingly a constant rotation at RG. I also think Wagner was on the field at less than 100% at times.

A 1/3 of the sacks on season came vs Vikings, whose blitz packages have given Stafford trouble in past and of course the first game without Tate was Vikings. Tate was a big factor in helping against the blitz, without him you basically had 2 downfield/contested catch guys. And of course, no TE threats. That’s a wet dream for Zimmer.
I think there were still issues at times, but I’d say a big chunk of them came when the WR core lost Tate and got depleted even more when Jones went down.

he must have had a few other offers and the Lions put up the most. I have read some strange stories about how undrafted free agents are signed, kind of like a high pressure stock market trading day.

Yeah, I think they said Nauta was actually on the phone with Ravens when Lions called to say they drafted him.

It was PJ Johnson on the phone with the Ravens. They tried to keep him on the phone. LOL.
