Just like to throw this out there every year so in 5 years we can show how much smarter we all were than the Lions' front office.
Just keep the picks as they were - no trades as there is too much speculation and unknown with that.
Here is mine:
1-8 T. J. Hockenson TE (Iowa) - I wouldn't have even considered Hockenson until after pick 20 or so. While a trade down would have been ideal, I probably go Oliver here (followed closely by Jonah Williams and then Bush).
2-43 Jahlani Tavai LB (Hawaii) - This is just one of those where you have to hope they know what they're doing. Personally I go Irv Smith here and get the needed TE at a much better value (who may even end up being better than Hockenson).
3-81 Will Harris S (Boston College) - Don't hate the pick, but I think I go G Connor Mcgovern (Penn State) here and pencil him as the day 1 starting RG.
4-117 Austin Bryant DE (Clemson) - Don't hate this pick either but I kind of like Mack Wilson here. Maybe consider Riley Ridley as well.
5-146 Amani Oruwariye CB (Penn State) - I would have considered Oruwariye in the 3rd so gladly take him here.
6-184 Travis Fulgham WR (Old Dominion) - This was the toughest pick to figure out. Don't mind going WR here but just don't know much about this guy. Can he play slot? We will be desperate for a slot guy once Amendola bumps his head. He went undrafted but I think I'll go with Johnnie Dixon Ohio State here.
6-186 Ty Johnson RB (Maryland) - I like what I'm seeing from him so I'll go with it.
7-224 Isaac Nauta TE (Georgia) - I'll take Jimmy Moreland here.
7-229 P. J. Johnson DE (Arizona) - I'll take Tyree Jackson here.
According to Gill Brandt the Lions had many offers to trade down from the 8 pick including Pittsburgh's offer made to Denver.
1-8 You don't take a TE in the top half of the first round. I take the trade down to Pittsburgh's pick 20, pick 52 and 3rd round 2020 pick.
1-20 T.J. Hockenson TE (Iowa) if he is not available, I take Montez Sweat, Edge Rusher, (Miss St.) This guy will be a Pro Bowler
2-43 Paris Campbell WR (Ohio St.) Amendola is signed for one year. Campbell can take the top off the Defense. Takes over as Slot receiver or for M. Jones.
2-52 I am going to say Hockenson was taken before pick 20. I am taking Kahale Warring, TE (San Diego St.) Just one tier down from Hockenson
3-81 Connor Mcgovern RG (Penn ST.)
4-117 Will Harris S (Boston College) He would have been here with much better value
5-143 Damon Harrison NT, Detroit Lions trade with Giants 2018
5-146 Amani Oruwariye CB (Penn St.) Love this pick, great value. Has a good chance to start.
6-184 MItch Hyatt OL (Clemson) A 3 time All American, 2 time Jacobs Award winner and 2 time All ACC is too good to pass up
6-186 Ty Johnson RB (Maryland) Can't believe he was still available
7-224 Issac Nauta TE (Georgia) Love this pick, excellent blocker could be used as an H-Back also. Finds 2nd level targets and locks on.
7-229 Albert Huggins NT (Clemson) This is one strong man. Takes over for Snacks.

8. My issue isn’t with Hockenson. I think he’s gonna be a very good TE. I wanted a trade down. I’d take Burns.
43. AJ Brown.
81. Dawson Knox
118. Stay with Bryant, trade down limited board.
146. Oruwayrie. Still great value.
6 and 7 are a wash, there were some guys I liked, but I like the way they went and don’t think anything worth really changing. Was really happy with day 3.
Given some of the things Quinn and Patricia have talked about with the D, I don’t think Burns, Oliver, or Bush really fit what Lions are doing. So that to me kind of throws a wrench in it, but those are the guys I’d have liked.
Hopefully Quinn was right about this draft, mainly day 1 and 2, because this is the make or break draft for him.
Gil Brandt said it, it must be true. Geezer, you follow directions well. Seriously, who would you have taken at 8? You can't even assume Sweat would be there at 20 if they trade down. One trade down could have a domino effect...maybe the team that trades up to 8 takes a player the team behind them wanted, forcing them to take someone else, etc, etc...

I'd have maybe taken someone that knows how to block. i.e. an olineman, but that's just me. And don't ask me for any names. It isn't my job to scout talent, but with all the picks we made, we have failed to address the weakest part of our team, o line. So let's get a TE that we will barely pass to 4 or 5 times a game if the QB can stay on his feet long enough. It's called putting the cart before the horse. It seldom works.
Gil Brandt said it, it must be true. Geezer, you follow directions well.
Was the above statement necessary? Gil Brandt has been affiliated with the NFL for 61 years. He knows practically everyone who is someone in the NFL. If anyone would know the inside track of what took place during the draft it would be him. So why would he lie?
I will say it one more time. I would have taken the trade down and picked Sweat at 20.

Have you ever listened to Brandt on Sirius? He's borderline senile.

And I will say it one more time. You don't know Sweat is still there at 20 if the Lions trade down. He might be, but a different trade down can have a domino effect on the rest of the round and even beyond. Which is why I stated:
Well I might have, esp after the draft Quinn said they were good at QB and liked Cook. At the time it seemed like a need. Honestly though, after getting Amani in the 5th, I would have been looking at another pick like Nautu.
I’m sure the lions had offers, Quinn himself said they did and I’m sure pretty much everyone on here would have traded down.
But I don’t know how you can do this without knowing the exact offer and like BB said, there’s likely a ripple effect to that. There was a ripple effect from a couple surprise picks before the Lions, Albert Breer talked about how the Jags were prepared to take Hockenson or Jonah Williams, but Allen fell in their laps. That I’m sure changed Lions plans and so on

It does not matter whether you change pick 8 by a trade or selecting someone, the outcome is changed....Or do you have some mystical crystal ball that says the speculation is higher or lower because you just changed the pick by selecting someone......No wait.....BB and his infinitely brilliant mind can calculate speculation as this is true and this false based on his Peter Fucking Pan speculation formula. Once you change pick 8 the rest of the draft is all speculation, comprende.
We do know that the Pittsburgh trade was offered to the Lions that is not speculation. Ref: Adam Scheffner and Gil Brandt
