since we have Williams now wouldnt be surprised if we draft Young. similar situation worked for the Bengals, though it was QB first then WR there. could work here too
People talk about Williams like he's a sure-fire NFL sensation. We don't even know what we have in him.

Yeah, WR hit rate isn't great, but it has gotten better.
It happens all the time with that position.
Coaches fall in love with a player's speed. Visions of all the amazing possibilities that will open up for them dance around in their heads.
Then reality rears it's ugly head and it's like "Oh yea, you win games by grinding it out and tossing a few 10-20 yarders to the much slower guy who figures out ways to get open (Aman Ra St Brown anyone?)."
Now you're shelling out first-rounder money to the guy who makes pretty plays but shits all over your time of possession. This isn't an offense that's starving for a flashy QB/WR duo. Our QB has all day to find a target ,and they're been averaging close to 30 points per game. This is all just silly talk.

I'm full on Carter/Andersen with the first pick unless we get up to #2, then trade down and get an extra 1st and/or second. I also think we need one of the 4 corners - Ringo, Porter Jr., Smith or Gonzalez. In the second, we need to find a linebacker or sign a big one in free agency.

I’m less concerned about LB than I was at beginning of the season. Rodriguez is obviously a keeper, Barnes is playing better, and can’t believe I’m saying it, but not opposed to bringing Anzalone back again. He’s been playing some good ball in the second half of the year.
I’d still like to see them bring someone in to develop, but don’t think it necessarily needs to be a big investment.

I like the way you think LK. In fact, this is a good CB class, and the Lions need 2 CBs to replace Will Harris and Mike Hughes. I also would like to see the Lions take a guard, RB, and WR on the 2nd day.

If I remember correctly, Holmes philosophy with LBs and TEs is to select them on day 3. Barnes (4th round), Rodriguez (6th round), and Houston (6th round).

Which late day 2/early day 3 is probably where off ball LB value lines up.

Good with guard, RB and another WR. The other questions: 1). Cuts have to be Vitai and Brockers, but we need a guard to take a spot there. I like Cooper Beebe with our 2nd 2nd round pick out of Kansas State. 2). Struggling thinking Anzalone is a long term answer and can we get someone instead of spending 5/6M a year on him? But, like how has played as of late. 3) Swift isn't the same guy. Hopefully he is better next year but cant shake the injury bug. I like Tucker from Syracuse. 4). DJ Chark - what do you do with him? Can't give him $10M/year like we did last year. Williams/Reynolds/St. Brown/Raymond needs someone else and I believe Cephus is probably gone, can't stay healthy.

No thank you on RB or WR before day 3. WR especially seems like that would be a waste of resources. I'd rather grab a developmental QB than either of those positions. And with this line, you don't need to waste a high pick on a RB that will just get injured anyway. WR is fine with St. Brown, Williams, Leaf, Reynolds all still under contract next year (and I still haven't given up on Cephus even though I should). Chark is interesting. While he'll probably cost a bit to keep, you have to also keep in mind he will count $9M against the cap the next 2 years so you have to think they have some type of plan for him. I have no idea what their thinking was on that contract.

I’d fine with a day 2 RB if something falls right, but it’s pretty low on the list. Think there could be real value at TE on day 2, that’s where I’d like before WR.
If they spend money in FA, I hope it’s on a guy like Jamel Dean. Would give some flexibility in secondary and time to develop a CB.

I am in luv and completely changed my mind. For the Lions' 1st pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Lions select "Bijan Robinson" RB, Texas. This guy would turn the Lions offense into an unstoppable scoring machine. I thought Saquon Barkley was "OMG", this kid is better than Barkley. He is Barry Sanders, but 6' and 220 lbs. He will break the single season rushing record in his first few years with the Lions. We have to have this kid. He is a generational talent. If we don't take him Philly will with the New Orleans pick.
To the BNL

yeah, what icloud said....no real issues in FA to me...
I don't have a problem with his FA philosophy of not making a big splash at this point in the rebuild, but really, of the guys he's signed, how many have made an impact? I mean, you've got Jamaal Williams obviously. Charles Harris seemed like a good one last year but this year not so much. I like the Cominsky signing and Buggs has been a nice low-end veteran type guy. Other than that, seems like a lot of flops. And that's without mentioning how he completely botched the kicker situation 2 years in a row.
pretty much proved the point. FA signings are a long shot. so 1 year contracts work great. some work out, most dont. love the idea. build through the draft.
