That said, Hock may end up reaching his potential with the Vikings, but there seems to be a perception from a lot of NFL media that Lions just traded Travis Kelce.

When you consider he has virtually the exact same stats as the OTHER TE from Iowa that was drafted #20 overall in the same year, I'd say this is a decent haul of picks for a player that clearly wasn't going to be a key piece of this rebuild.
Granted, these are going to be lower 2nd and 3rd rounders, and if the Lions continue to suck it up, there may be little difference between the 3rd rounder we get from Minny and the 4th we are giving them, but I like the cap savings and the aggressive decision making.
Well, assuming the other 4th is based on performance, my money is on him not getting them.
Hock is overrated relative to draft position, but he’s still a good TE. He’s on pace for 60 catches and almost a 1000 yards.
I guess. I feel like a lot of his production comes in spurts and he completely disappears for games at a time. Not the inconsistency you want at the TE position.
Steelers getting the Bears second for Claypool makes this look worse.
I don't know. Obviously the Bears 2nd will be a lot higher than the Vikings 2nd, but I think Claypool is more valuable than Hockenson given the upside and position.

If you’re critical of Hock for producing in spurts….
Ignoring some of the character stuff that’s floated around Claypool, too.
I don’t think it was a bad haul for Hock, more wild to me that Bears gave up at minimum a top 50 pick for Claypool. Steelers likely getting back more than they used to draft him.

You may be right. I guess I'm still intrigued by Claypool's upside (which is probably what the Bears were thinking as well). I feel like with Hockenson you pretty much know what you're getting at this point.
Hockenson is also $9.4M against the cap next year vs $2.1 for Claypool. I'm also not sure the Bears gave up all that much more than the Vikings did. 2 lower day two picks vs 1 higher one. Yeah, not crazy about giving back the 2 fourths, but at least they're spread out over 2 drafts and I think there is usually a drop-off after day 2.

I think Claypool may have more upside, but I also think there may be a little more boom or bust with him.
The thing with the Vikings is they didn’t actually give up anything, they maintained some draft capital. Of course the Bears had a lot of draft capital to use, but you just better be sure that Claypool is part of the long term picture to give that up.
hock wasnt going to be worth what his next contract was going to bring.
Probably not. However, I'm about 99% sure he'll torch us two times a year for the foreseeable future. Thank goodness we've already played the Vikes once this year

I have a sneaking suspicion that James Mitchell is going to emerge as a weapon the next games. He has some talent as a receiver. Plus, Brock Wright and Zylstra are pretty good also.

Will be interesting to see if the Vikings end up extending him. My thinking is no, but this is the Lions so I'm sure Hock will have a post-Bears Greg Olsen career.
pretty dumb trade IMO. pretty much just swapped picks. he likely wasnt going to stay in Detroit but seems like we should have got the better part of the trade.
