Also we saw Goff under other coordinators including McVey and he was not nearly as good.
I almost feel like the must draft a qb as well.
I'm just going under the assumption he's gone after this season. Unless teams want to hold off due to his experience, and whether it could have been a fluke (having flashbacks of Cooter).
I'm not sure if we have a plan B, but I'm reasonably confident that Campbell won't try and bring in an outsider who will want to do his own thing. What we need is a Ben Johnson disciple. But I'm not sure if such a thing exists.

I would be pretty surprised if we lose him in 2023. I think 2024 is more likely if the offense keeps it up into next year.
That’s my thought, too. There’s a chance though if a team falls in love with him during interview process and I’d assume teams are going to at least request to talk to him.

Tanner Engstrand?
Nailed it. I just "google researched" the guy, and he's got an impressive background. Forty years old (which is like 30 in coach years). Coached for 10 yrs at San Diego. Offensive coordinator under Jim Harbaugh (San Diego and Michigan). Mostly high-scoring offenses and winning records. Former player (almost a prerequisite for Campbell). Academic all-american (masters degree). Holds the same position Johnson did before his promotion (tight ends coach which is another Campbell prerequisite).
Yea, he's definitely the guy.

I agree BB, it will be after the 2023 season. His reaction to reporters that asked questions pertaining to Head Coaching this year were dismissed abruptly. He probably wants to continue learning to be an OC and improve his play calling prior to taking on HC responsibility. Aaron Glenn on the other hand would absolutely jump at the opportunity this year. Brian Flores here we come.

I'm sure Tanner has been right at the hip of Ben. So the transition would be smooth. Not sure why the media wants to push Ben from the Lions! Really bizarre
Good stuff FunkyTown. I remember thinking when I saw Penei in motion on that play, "They better not go to him because it's so obvious." But I didn't notice the earlier play they put him in motion.

I heard Decker on PMT talking about how much they practice their OL catching the ball and they’ve been setting up that play during the season and it was supposed to be a goal line set when they used. He was hoping they’d call his number because he wanted to add to his OL receiving TD stats
I think people forget just how much of a collaboration it has been between DC and Johnson. In many ways it still is, did BJ call the fake punt last week? Not likely. He is in the right place at the right time and has a chance to be a part of something pretty cool here. The longer he stays the better the offers, leaving next season and then possibly failing with a bad team would set him back...big time. Ride the wave.
“I’m gonna be honest with you, I’m just not quite there yet,” Campbell said. “I still have this eagerness to want to call it myself and so, man, it’s gonna be good.”
On Monday, he was asked about whether Johnson is capable of calling the plays.
“Yeah, but I think I am, too,” Campbell responded. “So, this is gonna be good. It’s gonna be fun, he’s done a great job.”
While Johnson holds the title of coordinator, it was Campbell who called the shots for the Lions’ final nine games last year.

This year, before the season started. DC has had his fingers in there plenty this year by simply oK'ing 4th down attempts and things like the fake punt. I would be very surprised if Johnson was gone in the off season. That's not to say that I don't think he will be going thru the interview process, because he should so he knows how to handle himself when it matters.
