Because Eagles may have nothing to play for week 18.
That was my thinking. Plus commanders are the weaker team so figured they'd lose more down the road. Whatever the case it will come down to lambeau field last game of the year and that sucks..

at this point, im most worried about the panthers in charlotte than anything....
Dallas will likely be playing for the right to face winner of the south instead of at SF or Minny...
Barring a collapse, won't Dallas be pretty much locked into the 5 seed and playing the winner of the south?
Seems like it, but if they beat Philly and looks like Hurts is out and with the very slim chance of NO knocking off Philly, Dallas and Philly could be playing for division on week 18.
That is all incredibly unlikely, but I also thought zero chance we’d have a playoff thread to even talk about these scenarios, so always a chance.
Hurts out or not, i think philly still wins...that leaves dallas with a half game lead over the giants, assuming giants win. Then a short week to face Tennessee, which isnt a gimmee....no, dallas could very well still be fighting for that 5th seed....id also add, i dont think many teams are really letting off the throttle going into the playoffs...maybe a super vetetan team, but most dont

You have a lot more faith in the Giants than I do. I'll be very surprised if they have a shot at the division in week 18.

Did anyone see the post-game on field interview with Rodgers when they told him their remaining games were all against opponents over .500 and he immediately responded, "Not all of them." Along with those comments he made after the Lions beat him I bet that smug little bastard has had the week 18 game circled since then.

i caught that and had the same thought...guess the lions got under his skin
Week 16 Lions vs Carolina … Lions win Washington vs SF … SF wins GB vs Miami … Miami wins KC vs Seattle …. KC wins Minnesota vs NYG …. Minnesota wins
Week 17 Lions vs Bears … Lions win Washington vs Cleveland …. Cleveland wins Seattle vs Jets …. Seattle wins Minnesota vs GB … GB wins NYG vs Indy … NYG wins
Note: even if all other teams win the Lions will get 7th seed at this point by winning. Vikings can gain 2nd seed with win against Packers.
Week 18 NYG vs Philly …. Philly wins Lions vs GB …. Lions wins Seattle vs Rams …. Seattle wins Washington vs Dallas … Dallas wins
Lions need to win out and have Washington lose 1 game Seattle lose 1 game
For lions to make playoffs while losing 1 game rest of the way they need Seattle to lose 2 games Washington to lose 2 games Packers to lose 1 game
Have to disagree, Vikings will not clinch 2 seed with win against Packers. Vikings will probably have to win out to maintain the 2 seed. The 49ers are 1 game behind and hold the tiebreaker with a better Conference record. I do not see the 49ers losing any of their last 3 games.

Yep, after the Lions thump his ass again, he will think twice about running his mouth and providing bulletin board material.

i was referring to the standings after that week, not through the season. if vikes beat GB they will have 2nd seed going into week 18

Saw last night that a Lions win the next 2 weeks with Seattle and Washington losing next 2 and Packers losing 1 of the next 2, would lock up a playoff spot and make Packers game not matter.

That would be a win/win if the Lions have a playoff spot before the Packers game. They could rest starters for the Wild Card game, and if they lose, improve their own draft position.

Here is a good breakdown of what would need to happen. I just don't see it happening that way...basically every game would have to swing their way with no leeway. They need to win out. Damn that tie.
