This dude just turned down a potential head coaching job in the nfl to remain with the Detroit Lions...yes, the Lions. That takes some balls. I also think it speaks volumes about where this organization is at, from personnel to coaching to front office. I cant wait to see who is next to take discount, pay cut, short contract, or whatever to finish this team...and you just know players, both lions and free agents saw this....good things coming...
Cominsky has already publicly said he wants to be back and I saw Buggs did yesterday too. Not in the passive, “yeah I’d like to be back, if it all works out”, type of deal, both went out of their way to say they want to be here. Definitely a different feeling.

Just playing devil's advocate...could also just be a case where he didn't want the Carolina gig or had inside information that he wasn't gonna get it anyway. It is kind of strange that he went on those other interviews and then decided to pull out right before the interview with the team that supposedly coveted him. Or maybe the Lions threw a bunch of money at him?
I think it’s possible that after the interviews he may have had some concerns about those jobs, they definitely have some red flags. Still even if the Lions gave him a nice raise, he passed up a shitload of money and the NFL head coach prestige to stick around. Says something.
Source; John Cominsky, Alex Anzalone and Isaiah Buggs have approached Brad Holmes saying they’d be willing to take a little less to remain with the team in 2023.

I can understand working for certain people. Those GMs and owners could have some warning signs that just didn't sit right. Could also be the expectations didn't mesh with what he wanted nor did they mesh with his philosophies. Maybe he is a terrible interviewer (although I have a feeling getting an in-person interview after an online one would not suggest that).
Maybe, he is being true and just wants to be part of this rebuild into a winner.
FWIW, sounds like AG is going to interview with the Cardinals or at least they ask for Lions permission.

Ben Johnson is pretty smart and sees the writing on the wall with the teams interested. Most of these teams are one and done for HC recently, not a good environment for a first time HC.
Glenn interviewing with Arizona. fingers crossed he gets it.
After they fired Pleasant the defense really made a 180 with the exception of a couple games. Down the stretch the defense was actually really good back half of the season. They have a lot of young guys learning on the job. There is certainly a lot of momentum there and would be tough to have to find a new DC. Be careful what you wish for. I see no reason to change anything, keep building on what they have accomplished.

Maybe its just me, but I don't see why another organization would hire a DC to be their head coach to reward him for having one of the worst Defenses in the NFL in 2022. I guess you could argue that the Defense showed some improvement in the 2nd half but unless you have a crystal ball...what would be the point. Now I could see another organization offering a HC job to a DC that just fielded a top 5 Defense. I wasn't surprised that Johnson got his wheels kicked a few times. But still, a little bit more of a track record should be required in order to become a HC in the NFL.

The Lions had a top 10 scoring D in the final 10 games, he clearly pushes some of the right buttons. That’s impressive with what I think was the youngest D in the league.
Also, performance as a coordinator isn’t indicative of ability as a HC, different jobs. How many top coordinators have flamed out after a couple years? You’re likely going to a roster that’s going to be lacking talent, that’s why they’re hiring, so leadership and the ability to build and manage a staff are the most important factors.
Good thing the current GM was a director of college scouting for 8 years before becoming the Lions GM and he knows what it takes to do the job.
Pilfering our College Scout Director is a way to horn in on how Brad Holmes has selected or rated his picks over the last 2 years. Thing is, Dave Sears was doing a good job when Quinn was here, so he deserves the promotion.

He also worked with the new Cards GM when they first came in the league, so already a relationship there.

How do you know that? Not disagreeing, just not sure how you could really know that unless you're inside the walls. He was with the Lions since 2007, which means he was there for some pretty horrific drafts. Though he survived the transition to Holmes & Co so I guess that says something.
I'll say it again. Everyone under estimates Tracy Walker. His injury hurt big time
idk....think at upgrade at S would be a huge step...walker is a great team player, but feel he is more situational and probably better as a great backup

I would like to see him and Kerby together back there
Walker has been a pretty solid player overall, I don't know if I would consider him a back up. Focus on the corners and I think you have the making of a decent secondary.

Agreed! Tracy Walker is a thumper. I would like Elliot back also.
