Williams stepped up and took over the number one RB spot. Detroit should resign him for a 2 or 3 year deal.
Swift proved he cant be relied on for even a light workload. one year left on his rookie deal. Trade him, get what we can.
Jackson has a role as returner and backup RB.
After those the rest can compete for a spot in camp. i would be fine getting rid of jefferson.
Make RB a draft priority. Williams is 27. so we will need a good one again quickly.
I would not trade Swift, you will not get return to make it worth it. He has one year left and had injury issues again. What is a team going to give up? I’m fine with re-signing Williams if the deal is right, but need to be smart. Fine with drafting a RB, not a priority though.

Yeah with Swift on a 2nd round rookie deal just keep him and hope you get 8 games out of him. I love Jamaal Williams for the locker room - seems like the perfect guy for this team, but you can't pay for last year's production. 17 TDs is great and all, but TDs are very situational and that stuff tends to even out. Williams had never scored more than 4 TDs in a season prior. Remember 2016 LeGarrette Blount? Williams also seemed to wear down a bit toward the end there (although he did bounce back a bit the last 2 games).
With 4 picks in the first 2 rounds, I would not be opposed to a RB on day 2 (preferably in the 3rd).

The good thing this year is the FA RB market looks loaded. Barkley, Pollard, Jacobs, Sanders, and more. Even with the season Williams had, he’s not gonna be a top guy in the market and I’d imagine he’ll have desire to come back. But I agree, if the price gets too much, have to make a hard decision.
Eh, keep Swift, sign Williams if it's team friendly enough, bring back Jackson and sign David Montgomery. Don't look at his numbers behind that crap Bears line, he can play. I would go DT, CB, OG and S with our first 4 picks. Make sure you fix the weakest link on the OL and lot's of guys could play RB for us and do well.

I would take Bijan Robinson with the #6 pick in the draft and let Williams go. Robinson, Swift, Reynolds, Jackson and Jefferson.
Robinson is 6' 220 lbs. bell cow RB. He is Swift and Williams all rolled into one. He is basically the clone of Marshall Faulk. This is a no-brainer draft him at #6.
P.S. Swift should be healthy all next year. It is his contract year.

Not with the 6 pick. Would not be opposed to it with the 18 pick, but only because they have the 2 picks. In the end I think I'd rather draft a QB with one of those picks than Robinson. Love the player though. Will be a stud no matter where he goes.

Robinson will not be there with the 18th pick. You do realize he is 4th overall rushing in University of Texas history behind Ricky Williams, Earl Campbell, and Cedric Benson. The icing on the cake is he could be the best Wide Receiver of this draft class. No LB or SS will be able to cover this guy, can you say mismatch. He scored 29 TDs rushing and 6 TDs receiving over the last 2 years. Only Marshall Falk was a double threat like that. He runs a 4.4 forty, cuts like Barry Sanders, runs through tacklers like A. Peterson or S. Barkley. PFF had him with over 100 broken tackles in 12 games. Pff also had him as one of the best blocking backs coming out of college this year. He is the Doak Walker winner and 1st team All American.
This guy will take the play action pass to a whole new level. Imagine 8 in the box trying to stop Robinson with Jamo Williams on an island going deep; Jared Goff faking the handoff and putting all his ass into the throw. This is not a pretty picture for the opposing defense.

I'd say it's 50/50 he makes it to 18. NFL Mock Draft Database has him at a consensus spot of #22, with most having him in the 20-30 range. Wouldn't surprise me if he went higher than 18. 6 would be a reach for a RB. Even if he's as good as you think he is (and he probably is), as a RB, especially with his running style, he won't be able to stay on the field consistently. Just ask the Giants if they would draft Saquon as high as they did again.

I think the Giants might say yes. You look at the other non QB’s in the top 10 of that draft, Roquan Smith and Nelson are the only guys that have played a significant amount of games more than Barkley. Bradley Chubb has played less.
Robinson is one of the rare guys I’d say is worth going that high, but I don’t think I could pull the trigger at 6. 18 for sure or maybe even in a trade back.
I’ve always felt the sweet spot for RB’s is day 2. You’re still getting high end talent and at low cost during their prime years. There should be a couple good ones there this year, too.

I would not trust mock draft sites BB. Too many homers trying to get all the talent for their team which skews rankings. I like to go to scouting sites, Ourlads, Waltersfootball, The Huddle Report, NFLDraftBuzz, DraftTtek. He is ranked around 8th on average for those sites. Hate to miss out on a Marshall Faulk type talent. Other teams who could take him are the Raiders (pick 7), Falcons (pick 8) and the Eagles (pick 10).

Love Williams but this comes down to talent, cost and availability. Swift is fantastic when healthy but availability is a skill set and he hasn't been able to. I'm wondering what it will cost to keep Williams - $5M? $6M? Per? Unfortunately, the decision has to be made prior to the draft because if Robinson from Texas is there at 18, you run, no you sprint to the podium.
The Lions have, for the longest, gone for need. Holmes lately has drafted talent over need. Hutch was a need and talented. Williams wasn't a need but saw talent and moved WAY up to get him. I think Robinson is talent and while grabbing a CB at 18 seems logical, I believe passing on him there would be a mistake.
He’s also a FA after next year. Gibbs can make plays.
He sure can and will most likely be selected anywhere in the 20s of the first round. He will not make it the 2nd round. Negatives - Poor pass blocker, does not have the size or frame to be a bell cow RB. Too light to be used for short yardage. Could have durability issues due to size.

robinson will get picked early in 1st. hes not worth the 6 pick. gibbs might still be there at 18 and is worth it.we arent going to just let swift walk after this year. get something while we can for him. even it its a 4th or 5th round pick. not worth the risk of a major injury to get what little use we can out of him.

I’m with you, I bet he goes in the 20-40 range.
I don’t really care if he has frame to be a bell cow, there’s like 6 of those guys in the league. I’d rather have 2-3 guys that being different skill sets to use for match-up issues and you can keep fresh. Gibbs is as explosive as they come and would be a monster j passing game, would be a nice replacement for Swift. Issue is like you said, he probably falls in that range in between the second first round pick and their second rounder.
Tucker from Syracuse is another guy that would fit that role.

Williams has a lot of value due to the style of runner he is in short yardage. His YPC isn't great, but a lot of that has to do with how he's used. I like where we're at if Craig Reynolds returns. Dude just quietly puts up good numbers every time he's starting or getting significant carries (Nothing flashy, just finds the hole and keeps the chains moving).

NFL current trends in drafting RB's is to draft multiple RB's and split up the workload between 3 RB's. Kind of makes sense to draft RB's with multiple skill sets and not put all your eggs in one basket. Diversity reigns in today's NFL. I don't think the current lion's management is going to draft a RB in the first round. I tend to agree. This draft should be very, very heavy on Defense. I could see as project OT taken too.

Very few RBs come out of college with size, speed and the entire RB skill set in one basket. In fact, Marshall Faulk was arguably the only one. So, it is not really a trend as much as necessity that teams have to use multiple RBs to complete their offense. However, using a different RB for rushing, passing, and short yardage provides a tell, that helps the defense predict what the offense will do, reducing their chance for success on any given play. I believe Bijan Robinson has the entire RB skill set which will improve the Lion's offense immensely by eliminating the tell. I also believe he will be the Offensive Rookie of the Year and don't want to play against him in the playoffs next year.

That's part of the genius of BJ and DC, offensively. They'll surprise you by bringing in the short-yardage package and then lob one to a TE. And a blocking TE no less (even Penei got in on the action).
I don't think there's any more we need out of the offense at this point. An upgraded backfield would just be icing on the cake.
