Yeah, that was an odd comment. Injuries are probably the #3 driving force behind a team's success after QB and O-line play. And if either of those 2 get injured you're really fukked.
yall are being stupid...question is if it's intentional or if you're really stupid (stoopid Ala sanders97)

I'm definitely stoopid...but I'm not really sure what your angle is here. I think Rusty and I were just pointing out how impactful injuries are in the NFL and it's pretty "stoopid" to not consider their impact on a team.

sure thing, bud
So and so: they didn't address this
Someone: actually, they did with XYZ
So and so: well, injuries happen so those don't count
Someone: yea, I wasn't talking about injury contingencies, just starters SINCE THAT WAS THE FUCKING TOPIC
Jackoffs: *drool* see, they didn't address the position because you don't care about injuries
This explains a lot. Thanks for pointing that out.
What this meant was I don't think GMs should draft and sign FA guys because you are worried your starter is going to get injured, just in case. You do it to have depth and they have been doing this fairly well.
But typical Rusty logic when he has none.....example:
Goldenlions: "I hate dogs who bite and maim tiny children"
Rusty: (quoting Goldenlions) "I hate dogs" You are a monster!!!

Isn't one of the main reasons of acquiring depth to be prepared for injuries? Did the Lions just sign Teddy Bridgewater to look pretty on the sidelines?

Okay, forget I even asked.

I just don't think Broderick Martin is ready to step in and play a big role, should either Bugs or McNeil go down. We have too much depth at Defensive End, and not enough at Defensive tackle.
This doesn't mean the sky is falling, or that our season is toast. But it's a chink in Martin Mayhew, er, sorry, Brad Holme's armor. He's way overvalued skill position players while neglecting the team's biggest weakness. The fact that he's been so on-the-money with his latter round picks makes up for it.

Buggs PFF score vs Giants was 67, Martin's was like 54 if memory serves me right. It's the kids first game. Jack Campbell was the best of all like 96...that is incredible. Like others have said in your not going to see him in there on 3rd down like you did in preseason and he will only get better.

He's inexperienced and plays too high. Levi is coming off recurring injury. Buggs isn't even that good. Just seems like these guys have this philosophy that all they need is a big body in the middle to chew up space. Is Grady Jackson retired?

Yes he does play too high, but I don't think you are too off the mark with this.
If he gets his gap and a half plugged that's his main responsibility.

So you think Bridgewater is hot? ewwwwwwww. LOL
To be fair, he said "pretty." Which is usually reserved for women who aren't in good physical shape. If a guy calls you pretty, it usually means it's time to go to the gym.

No, it's not, it's to have depth. If your definition of depth is prepare for injuries, then so be it, seems semantical at this point. I don't think that main reason Holmes drafted Gibbs was just in case Montgomery gets injured.

Did you watch Sudfeld play on Friday night? I think the coaches knew he wasn't enough, nobody did. I also believe if Hooker was remotely ready to play if needed, they wouldn't have signed Bridgewater. And they would have rolled with Sudfeld and Hooker. Teddy might be useful if Goff goes down, but I doubt it and would never expect it. It's rare that a backup can outplay the starter if they go down.

I see. I think the word you're looking for is "rotation" but that's just semantics.
You have a point not gonna' lie.
I do, however, think the RB platoon is primarily about injury depth, because you're limiting carries basically. If the rate of injury for the position were more in line with other positions then I think it's safe to say most teams would roll with a fearured back averaging 25-30 carries carries per game. So in a roundabout way it really is about injury depth, but you do make a point.

Not to mention if Swift wasn't so INJURY prone, he would still be a Lion and Gibbs likely wouldn't be.
Didn't the Patriots basically build a dynasty based on the notion that guys will get injured so you always have the "next man up" ready to go with minimal drop-off?

Or by lucking into Tom Brady. Great QB’s tend to improve the overall depth on a team.

I always felt the patriots went with hot hand...yes there were some injuries, but even when healthy they would go with the back that seemed to hit that particular D harder...or perhaps it was just rotation to keep them all healthy through the season, but felt it was match-up specific more than anything

I knew someone would bring that up. Fair point, but I feel like there were times when those teams were hit pretty hard by injuries particularly on the defense and O-line earlier in Brady's career (before he became the GOAT) and they still didn't skip a beat.

Definitely heavy scheming with a HOF head coach. But I think a lot of the brilliance of Belichick's schemes were that injuries to key players didn't completely deflate them.

I think of it as just an evolution of the game, and the role of the RB. Just like with TEs, they can't all block and catch equally as well, and sometimes you need more of one than the other. Maybe you give a guy a breather to keep him fresh for a tougher matchup.

You made a point? I must have missed it. You basically said nothing and thought you had a point. I guess we all hear what we want to hear. Maybe myself.
