There is no such thing as good OL depth in the NFL. It’s all relative, like a back-up QB. A lot of teams can’t field average OL’s in general, never mind have competent guys to fill in for injury.

This is a fairly big shot to WR depth. Lions have nothing on the outside besides Jones and Golloday. And I think Powell is showing some promise, but now he’s main depth in slot behind a guy that has a history of getting dinged up. Kearse could play in slot too.
Don't disagree, but with the quarterback they have not sure any of that makes a difference. Would rather see what the young guys can do to get them ready for whoever the next QB is.
Whoever the QB is, guys like Jones and Lacy don’t have a place on the roster.
You are full on retarded if you think the QB of the Lions for at least the next 5 years (barring injury) isn't anyone other than someone named John M. Stafford....

As a Vikings fan, I will say that no truer words have ever been spoken, eerrr, written.
There have been a lot of complaints/articles over the past several years about the lack of OL talent. It's a serious freaking issue, right up there with the lack of quality QBs coming out of college.
Too bad the AAF failed so quickly. People were kind of excited about young guys being able to continue to develop/show off their skills.

Okay, I've kind of gathered that some of you really don't like Stafford. Why is that?
Where do you guys rank him in the NFCN? The whole NFL? Top halfish, even on a bad day, right? I'm not sure I'd be so willing to get rid of an above average QB who doesn't miss games, for ... the unknown. It could get uglier, A LOT UGLIER. Careful what you wish for.
Connor Cook as bad as he has played, has to be better than Fales. Or, they could sign Kaepernick...I would love to see him sitting across the table from Martha...Fly on the wall for that

I think Connor Cook is a major dick and no team really wants to deal with his ego.

Because he was drafted #1 overall and is getting paid $20-30 million per year since he came into the league and in 10 years has never won a playoff game, has like a 5-48 or something rediculous record against teams that finish with a winning record, he is wildly inaccurate, great one minute and garbage the next.
I think the expectations is that he should be A-a-Ron or Brees or Brady ...when in reality he is maybe...well hell, I really can't think of a guy who has lasted this long and done so little.
As a QB, I personally think there is about 6-12 QBs that are better (I know wide range, but a lot of Qbs outside of the top 3-4 can be inconsistent.
I think overall people are just tired of this guy making a ton of money and never winning anything. And they see guys like Mahomes or Mayfield come into to the league and start lighting it up and want that. And he is so blase that he appears to not have the fire or intensity that other QBs show on the sidelines and/or podium time.
Personally, unlike most people I don't hate Stafford and I realize this organization has been one of the worst at gathering talent through the draft and I am not really convinced that the Lions GM Bob Quinn really know how to build a great team. Having a QB without a running game (which the Lions have been in the bottom 5 since Stafford has been here) is a recipe for disaster.

Barry is cynical bastard.
Stafford is fine. He was sub-par last year, especially coming off a year when he was a top 10 QB and arguably a 2 and a half year stretch of top 10 play. He’s frustrating at times, but barring a repeat of last season or major injury, he’ll be the QB next year.
The depth overall isnt good. Look what the Pat's #2's did in comparison. Some of these will see some playing time.
Granted there are 40 guys on every roster that wint be in the team in 4 weeks.
I will be keeping a close eye on Wiggins, he didnt look good.
I don’t imagine Wiggins played more than 12-15 snaps. He played that first drive with starters and then went back in with Glasgow in second half for a drive or 2.

Next QB....
Not a chance Stafford is still the QB here in 5 years. I'll even be surprised if he's still starting somewhere in 5 years.

So full on retard it is for you. I guarantee, barring injury, that Stafford will definitely still be the Lions QB in 2024. He is on the Phillip Rivers plan. Do just enough not to get dumped.

Yeah, Stafford is their best option right now, but I think they should be grooming someone sooner rather than later. It doesn't make sense to get rid of him this year and probably not next year, but in 2021 we are probably looking at a new QB. I would prefer that QB to be on the roster now but he isn't.
As for the NFC North, obviously Rodgers is #1. I think Cousins is basically Stafford 2.0. Not really sure what to make of Trubisky as I think a lot of his success last year was Nagy knowing how to use him. As for the NFL overall he's probably in the 20 range, but most of the guys in that range are pretty similar and most or all of them are paid much less.
ROFLMAO DOOM DOOM were DOOMED Granted the 2nd and 3rd stringers were terrible But it’s a new line coach and a new offense and they played against the best I guess as Lions fans the attitude is fairly normal They’ve had ota’s and 3 weeks practice 3 friggin weeks Communication takes time I’m giving them a little while longer to get it straight Preseason game 3 should give us a better idea of how good or bad this team is

Yeah my feeling on the team didn't really change based on the first preseason game.

There was a few things that may be a little concerning, but no one should be reacting much.
There was maybe a dozen or so guys that played double digit snaps last night that will make the roster. I’m not sure they had DLineman play that will make the 53.

The big thing is the O-line. If we don't see significant improvement from the O-line this year that would be tragic given the number of resources put into it over the last few years. Quinn's job may be riding on it.

Yeah, when I was reading goldenlions' reply I was thinking to myself, "Oh wow! I wonder how these guys feel about Cousins!" Now it makes a lot more sense!
Your second paragraph is pretty much exactly how a lot of Vikings fans feel about Cousins. Basically, "Solid QB, but overpaid." Just as many are in "wait and see" mode, but yeah, if we don't make the playoffs this year, a lot of people are going to lose their jobs! Time for Cousins to live up to that contract, well, and Stafford, too!

Yeah I have to agree. That's going to be what we should all be paying attention to and also the overall offense with the #1s and the new scheme with Bevell. They didn;t look all that great, granted it was a series. Wiggins with 1's or 2's looked rough. Again its very early
The Game reminded me of the JV playing the Varsity. The OL sucked...badly..the QB play was horrible..see OL play notes. David Fales just couldn't get rid of the ball, Savage got savaged. The defense wasn't up to snuff either. But all in all, it was the first pre-season game. A barometer or measuring stick of where they are. I guess they will kind of be shell shocked looking at the film. Whatever the Bevel scheme is....I'm concerned. OL looked discombobulated and erratic. I have waited since the Barry Sanders days to see some semblance of a running game, A running game that other teams prep for. I'm not sure this is it. Too early to tell I guess....Just have this feeling kinda like after the opener with the Jets last year. I wait patiently...I was 1 year old when the lions won their last championship. Details are a little fuzzy..... Oh Well, Go Lions
