I've been pretty down (realistic?) on the Lions the past few weeks (all season?)...
That said, I can't help but feel theres been some management (ie,injuries, play calling, etc.) happening...but I'm willing to admit, that may just be the optimist in me.
So was the seasons 3rd quarter just imitating the lions 3rd quarter performance in games or is it more? Do they pick it up in the last quarter of the season and re-assert themselves as a (minor) contender or do they continue with the issues they've been having?

Took me a few reads to figure this one out but I think I know what you're saying Felix. You must be hittin' the whiskey.
The Lions need to get back to the "I don't give a shit" attitude they had at the second half of last season. That was probably the most fun (and most successful) Lions 10 game stretch in my 50+ year lifetime. There was a vibe with that team I never saw before and I haven't seen since. All the Eagles/49ers/Cowboys fans I know said after the regular season the Lions were the one team they were glad didn't make the playoffs. I don't think those fans have that feeling right now. They need to get back to that place.

I have a feeling that Montgomery and Gibbs are going to go wild this Saturday, the Lions win by 10+ and everyone comes off their proverbial ledge about this team.

yeah...I feel like DCs comments about Peyton trying to embarrass the lions is going to motivate them....
I think the team in general has an underdog mentality and doesn't know what to do when they're in the driver's seat.
There may be some truth to this but maybe they're going through that. The transformation mentally from vicious underdogs to a more top tier champion contender confidence. Those swimming in the water as MCDC put it. Now it's time to drown the other teams in that dark abyss. It makes sense ya know that whole haven't won a playoff game since like what 30 years? Change in think and action isn't easy.
Since the end of last year when the Lions started winning till now, we have seen several times starting with the Raven games where coordinators have put together a good game plan and the Lions could not figure it out.
Chicago came out and said they kept the Lions in 3rd and longs on offense and stop the run on the early downs. The defense..we know what that is.
I have not seen the coaches adjust as much as I they probably should. They need to throw more on early downs, they need to work the ball to different players besides AMSB and LaPorta in the middle of the field. Defense needs to keep changing up coverages and find a way to get some pressure.
Goff is who he is but like 99% of NFL teams besides the Ravens of early 2000's we need good QB play and stop the turnovers. The OL needs to protect Goff better. The things that have been working for us, have not been working as well as it should.

Everything you said, is basically the OLine play...
It cannot go without saying just how much success we have managed to squeeze out of a makeshift o-line all season. If I'm not mistaken, we had our 10th different o-line combination last week in 13 games? That we are sitting at 9-4 is truly amazing. I believe it was the KC/GB game where one of the KC o-linemen got hurt, and the announcer mentioned that no KC o-lineman had missed a game this season. In years past, one injury along the o-line would have almost guaranteed a Lions loss.
Also, when considering that two of our three big offseason free agent signings have barely contributed, where they were expected to be starting DB's, and Houston missing virtually the entire season so far, it is even more amazing that we are sitting at 9-4. This is a good team, with some quality depth. I expect to see a strong finish based on the fact that Chicago was our last outdoor game of the regular season, if nothing else.
I think Vic is right. Again. :/ The OC doesn't make changes or mix it up quite enough. Goff has stayed away from the long ball. But if Ragnow returns I think we'll see a huge difference. Same with D. These guys have to take notice during first halves and adjust
