well, davis is better than anything we had. so make what you want of it. Arik Armstead of the 49ers is a free agent now. i would definately bring him in for a talk.
I just read somewhere we just signed Arik Armstead too. Holy shit man. It's like a half off sale
Makes me think Broderick Martin isn't where he's supposed to be in terms of development
I think he was our last pick in the very late rounds. I don't think there is a ton of expectations right away. If he produces at all that us a bonus.
they gave up a decent amount to trade up into the 3rd to take him....I believe we was projected as a 5th or 6th rounder, not that that means anything....just think maybe they fell a little too in love with his size?
But agree badness, between a new DL coach and hopefully readers as a mentor, hopefully he develops. I just think they thought he might be further along after his redshirt year...just a guess...they obviously have an idea about what they want/need for this position...

Yeah and judging by that post draft video last year they were willing to move up higher to get him. He’s clearly a guy they really like. No idea how they thought his development would go, though. Took Iffy a couple years to put it together, maybe they planned on similar path.

I think its does. For some reason I thought he was a later pick and started typing before I confirmed my assumption. Yeah that is disappointing.
[quote author="goldenlions" People need to stop looking at the 2024 Lions defense as the 2023 defense in terms of other teams moves.[/quote]
A lot depends on what help they bring in for the D. I like the DT we just signed, but secondary is still a question mark, also another pass rusher is needed.
Now just sign Dalton Risner and I'll be happy. He'd be an upgrade over Jonah.
He wouldn’t.
But he’d be a decent signing as long as they got one of the interior guys on first 2 days to compete.
You're definitely higher on Jonah than I am (and seemingly most people). I like him...nice athletic guard, but even putting aside the injuries the last 2 years, I don't think I've seen a single source that grades him higher than Risner.

The NFL is higher on Jackson.
Also what sources are there to grade outside of PFF? Which I already pointed out this season the the clear holes on their grading system. And that’s ignoring the issues with assignments.
If you follow OL guys on twitter/X like Duke or Brandon Thorn both have always been high on Jonah.
Risner is fine, but he’s not nearly as versatile or athletic. He’d limit some of the things they do in run blocking. He’d be a solid stop gap or vet competition for a rookie.

I’m fine with not paying Jonah. He’s good, not elite and with the money they have allocated to the OL and will have to put in with Sewell coming up. They were going to have to make a change at some point.
I think there’s just a little recency bias against Jonah. He missed 10 games since 2020, not insignificant, but Risner has missed 6. Kevin Dotson another guy brought up has missed 14. I think he gets talked about like he’s Bob Sanders some times.
packers got Josh jacobs. better pass catching threat than aaron jones was. bears got keenan allen, hes toughto bring down. just hope the bears fuck themselves over again at QB. Vikings, still laughing about the sam darnold signing. meanwhile we will likely draft CB, WR, DE priority wise. are we gonna let josh reynolds go or resign him? people jones isnt the answer there either.
