It’s gonna be Patricia’s D. I don’t think the issues the team is having is really the calls within the game, it’s a philosophy and schematic issue. It’s up to Patricia to fix that, a new DC isn’t going to do much unless Patricia fixes those things or decides to let them run whatever they want, which is doubtful.

Yeah, I don't see it ever happening because Rivera would want full or at least 95% control. That's why Patricia hired that senile old man to be his puppet (and likely now his scapegoat).

If he's up for moving to a DC for a few years, absolutely. Anyone with HC level IQ can help assist with bringing our defense back. We're going to get at least 2 or 3 years more from Patricia to see what he can do so let's set him up to win.

I'm not sure I completely agree with this. You don't think their lack of defensive adjustments within games when the 4 man rush wasn't getting any pressure on the quarterback was an issue? I suppose you could file that under philosophy and scheme though. Or just straight-up stubbornness.

Yeah, that’s the thing. I think the 3-4 man rushes is philosophical thing right now. And if it’s not, it’s still on Patricia to make adjustments, especially considering he’s a defensive guy.
The guy has had some of the best defenses in the NFL a number of years as both a coordinator and as a head coach. He's twice been the NFL Coach of the Year. The only reason the Bears made the Super Bowl in 2006 was due to his defense. He's been to the Super Bowl as a player and coach - and was a member of one of the greatest defenses in NFL history (the 1985 Bears).
The guy KNOWS how to build great defenses.
He's probably going to get a head coach gig though. But if for some reason the Lions COULD get him to coach here, well, why not? He'd probably be a great resource for Patricia beyond just the defense stuff. The guy has a wealth of football knowledge. You can't have too much of that on your coaching staff. JMO.

I guess I would what to see who gets fired before I declare that Rivera gets another head coaching gig right away. His defenses have been topsy turvy in Carolina the last 5 years. Some okay, some terrible.
If he still want to coordinate he would be better off going to a team with an offense background head coach. I think you could have some philosophical differences in guys who are molded differently.
