3-9-1. Time to start thinking offseason cuts, trades, "go get hims" and other ideas to fix the roster. I'm not even going to comment on Quinn or Patricia because they are going nowhere. Lions have about $49M in cap space (30M + 19M in rollover from 2019).
1) Cut Rick Wagner. Not worth the $11M hit. Save $6M and now have $55M.
2) Trade Darius Slay. You aren't going to sign a 29/30 year old CB to a 4 year extension for 60 M. Save the $10.5M and you have $65M in cap space.
3) Trade or Release Romeo Okwara. While he had a nice season last year, he has been non-existent and saves you 3M. Now $68M in space.
4) Now for the big move - Rescind the 5th year contract for Taylor Decker. $10M for him at Left Tackle is too much, let someone else pay him a long term deal. You now have $78M in space. The ALTERNATIVE to this is convince him to move to Right Tackle and pay him a salary around $7.5M a year for 3 years. But, he isn't your answer at left tackle.
5) I would sign Galladay to a long term deal. I would also look and see what A'Shawn would cost longer term. Free agents would include Robert Quinn, Emmanuel Ogbah, Yannick Ngakoue - all Defensive Ends. At corner, a james Bradberry or Daryl Worley might work. For linebacker, an call it Patriot crazy, but isn't this a scheme Kyle Van Noy would do really well in? For the draft, you have to get a LT with the 4 or 5 pick as I am assuming Chase Young will be gone. With the second rounder, you need to pluck a strong corner off the board unless you take the corner from Ohio State in the first round.
Just my thoughts as another lost season in Detroit passes by.
