Agree. I do not want okudah id rather have Simmons or Brown.
CBS take a year to adjust to the NFL. DL don’t. I’d be fine with Brown. That said I’d rather have Simmons than Brown.
Even ignoring that there isn’t any real truth to that. You’d be fine possibly taking a lesser player at 3 just because of possible bigger impact in year 1?

Last season showed how horrible our defense was with a poor DL and we had Slay at CB. it wouldn’t be any different with Okudah if the DL isn’t improved so yes I’d take Brown over Okudah. Last season is exactly why.
IN GENERAL, CB's do take longer to adjust, and there is plenty of truth to back that up. However, the higher up you go the less that becomes true. In the 3rd round you can find DT's, esp this year, who can walk right in and start, very little chance that you are going to find a CB that can. 2nd round is a toss up, hell we benched Slay twice in his first year, first round not so much. CB is one of the harder positions to learn, but the better your skill set the more you can recover from mistakes so you can be inserted. While I don't like the value at #3 for Okudah, I would take him based on his talent and our need. There will be starting talent at DT in the 3rd this year.

That’s more what I was getting at. In the last few drafts you have first round CB’s and Safeties making the pro bowl and winning DROY, and one All-Pro. Guys getting drafted at the top are generally getting drafted that high not just because of a big ceiling but usually they have skills to make an impact right away.

When is the last CB taken in the top 5 that team's truly feared? I look at a guy like Simmons as an Ed Reed/ Troy Polumalu type player that can take over games, plus add a threat in the nickel rushing the passer. I prefer drafting CB's in RD 3-5 every year. They either make it or don't in the NFL regardless of where you draft them IMHO. Simmons could be a generational talent, and too hard to pass on if I were the GM.

Arguably the best CB in the league was a top 5 pick a few years ago so....
Denzel Ward was the 4th pick a couple years ago and is one of the better young CB’s in the league.
I like Simmons a lot, but I don’t see it happening. He’s not a LB in the Patricia system(most systems really)and the Lions love Tracy Walker which is the spot Simmons would fit best in.
Maybe they love him and are willing to make some adjustments to the D, but I’d be surprised.
Simmons has amazing talent but lacks a true position and with the Lions organization so caught up in "their" system I don't think they will be willing to utilize a talent like him properly, for instance he is a great pass rusher from the nickel yet the Lions rarely blitz, he can cover most positions on the field yet if playing safety is going to spend a lot of time in deep half coverage, I'd be very interested with different leadership but as long as it's the Patriots of the Midwest I fear the talent would be wasted.
Two 1st round trades that I feel are realistic Traded with Miami for an additional 2nd and a 5th (get QB of choice) Traded with Chargers for an additional 3rd (get qB of choice, I think Panthers are going to look to trade up) ***don't see how many of the players fell as far as they did but would be quite happy to have it turn out this way***
