Over the cap has the Lions listed as ~$29.5 million in cap space, with approx $16 million for rookie contracts.
In the 2020 offseason the following are the key additions/ subtractions in FA:
Additions:
RT Halapoulivaati Vaitai, LB Jamie Collins, CB Desmond Trufant, S Duron Harmon, DT Danny Shelton, QB Chase Daniel.
Subtractions:
CB Darius Slay, RG Graham Glasgow, RT Rick Wagner, DT Damon Harrison, LB Devon Kennard, DT A’Shawn Robinson, S Tavon Wilson, P Sam Martin, QB Jeff Driskel.
In the 2020 draft the Lions added:
Pick 3 CB Jeff Okudah, Ohio State Pick 35 RB D'Andre Swift, Georgia Pick 67 EDGE Julian Okwara, Notre Dame Pick 75 G Jonah Jackson, Ohio State Pick 121 G Logan Stenberg, Kentucky Pick 166 WR Quintez Cephus, Wisconsin Pick 172 RB Jason Huntley, New Mexico State Pick 197 DT John Penisini, Utah Pick 235 DT Jashon Cornell, Ohio State
Lions 2020 UDFA signings:
Iowa State long snapper Steven Wirtel South Dakota State FB Luke Sellers Washington TE Hunter Bryant Notre Dame S Jalen Elliott Auburn P Arryn Siposs Norfolk State DB Bobby Price Auburn DB Jeremiah Dinson
The following is the Lions current training camp roster.
With all of these transactions, and contracts in mind. How would you like to see the Lions use the remaining $13 million? Would you make more cuts to free up space? Should they stand pat until after training camp, to see if quality veterans become cap casualties? Should they consider trading for anyone?
Put you GM/ Coach hat on and look at this current roster and address the weakest areas with the tools available.

New contract for Golladay first and foremost start taking some of the cap expense this season, Mike Daniels is the name everyone throws around maybe he stays healthy and it seems he liked the Lions coaching and they liked him so why not give it another go because the Lions are very thin at DT.
Other than that stand back and see if someone interesting becomes available.

Don’t see Clowney happening, so
Mike Daniels Olivier Vernon Jabaal Sheard Hassan Reddick Tavon Wilson Markus Golden
Offense, maybe just some depth at OT like Cordy Glenn or Kelvin Beachum, if price isn’t too crazy. Maybe bring in a guy like Paul Richardson to try and win a spot.
If there is football this season, if ever the Lions would go deep into the playoffs, it would definitely be the year of the pandemic. I can think of nothing more apropos and get this...they win the championship game and get into the Super Bowl, but the Super Bowl is cancelled due to an outbreak. Just a hunch. Don't roast me, what can I say?

Def I have thought similar...when the NFL deep state allows the Lions to succeed, it will coincide with a pandemic fueled cancellation

I have had a similar thought. I see a shortened season due to a team/teams contracting the virus... right about week 10 with the Lions sitting around 7-2. No playoffs, no SB. Sorta like the strike season in '82 that ended in week 9. They had a SB that season, but I think that will be the difference.

I can’t see Ryan at this point. Locked in at 3 CB spots and more than likely 4 with Oruwayrie. Those bottom of the depth chart CB’s have to be ST guys like Virgin was last year, so Tony McRae and Daryl Roberts have a real shot. Considering you’ll still have to pay him decent money, just doesn’t seem realistic.
This year is going to be a bullshit season! I would not only save the entire 30 million but I would make even more cuts and stack this team for the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

That is something I've thought about. If this is a shortened season or played without fans, etc...will people be that interested? Will whoever wins the Superbowl forever have an asterisk attached to it? Will anyone even care?

Look at the ratings for the draft. That's all you need to know. Frankly, when I watch a game on TV, the fans in the stadium affect my watching more negatively than positively.
Shit, they could just CGI fans and crowd noise in the broadcast, if it makes that big of difference.
Hell, I am gonna start watching this Korean baseball league on ESPN when it gets going.

These companies are losing BILLLLLLIIIIIIIOOOONNNNNSSSS of dollars
Martha may very well hang onto that 30 mill
There’s a difference between cap space and cash spending. And this is before the rookie deals and any extensions that could be coming like Golladay and Decker.

Exactly what I been basically saying all along with getting rid of STafford and rebuilding because he is not the answer ! If their gonna spend the money than go extend Golladay, or trade him and get a 1st and more for him and truly restart from the get go !
Besides the rookies and Hockenson and Ragnow and Golladay ( not opposed to trading Golladay in the right deal ) i'd say everybody else is tradeable as long as it doesn't hurt your cap too much with the exception of STafford, you can trade him and take that whole cap hit this year or transfer all his CAP hit to this year and restructure so his cap hit won't hit at all for 2021 and 2022. That way when you trade him it will be very favorable to another team to trade for him and probably make his trade value even better. This way we will have a ton of cap room for 2021 because who knows what the cap is gonna be especially if no fans
at the games ?
This 2020 season is a dead duck , been said it for months !
