Knew this was coming. The Lions must have 15 guards on the roster right now, 2 of them they just spent mid-round picks on, one trading up for. They also let a good solid guard walk in free agency. So why would they turn around and spend money on Warford?

Lol....Yeah, the Lions let him go because they didn't want to pay him what he could get on the open market. Pretty much the same with Glasgow. So he (Warford) might even get picked up on waivers for a team that really needs OG starter. Almost 8 million....per year. 28 years old...Quinn let him go...didn't try to sign him. I think there is no chance that Warford ends up a Detroit Lion again. He is a good player ....8 million per year , that is a lot... Decker...Ragnow are the for sure things..Joe Dahl, Tyrell Crosby ...I don't know...they have the cash to sign him. Would be one helluva OL if they did sign him. Johnson and Stenberg.....
OT Halapoulivaati Vaitai OT Taylor Decker C Ragnow OG Warford OG Dahl
I remember reading some stuff that Warford hated Ron Prince, so I don’t think he as coming back regardless.
I think that some teams are trying real hard to have a rotational OL especially at OG. Lions kind of did that some of that last year. Makes sense as that happens with the DL. So the OG position is probably the easier....not that it is easy, but the more complex positions on the line C, OT would be harder to Rotate as they are the more specialized/athletic positions and appear harder to rotate for obvious reasons...(Talent) being #1. So I wouldn't imagine that the Lions would cough up that kind of big money for OG (History shows that). Looks like the philosophy is to have pretty good but cheaper OG that we can rotate and keep fresh. At least if there is a plan by the braintrust, that appears to be an explanation
It's apparent the Lions are not willing to spend a lot of cap money at OG and will be using players until their rookie contracts are up. Warford and Glascow are very solid NFL guards Quinn let walk. Only issue i have with this philosophy is there is a lot of draft capital spent at the position. I'd say he had the same philosophy regarding the RB position.

I understand using that philosophy on RB's because of their shelf life, not so happy about using it on OG's. I didn't see this as a great year for probowl type talent at OG but OT depth was so good, they flew off the shelf and for good reason. If an OT struggles outside there is often the possibility of moving them inside. If an OG struggles, there is no place to go. For that reason I think we got decent value with both of our OG's because they got pushed down past their talent level. I believe Jackson will start maybe not Day 1 but certainly before the season is over. Stenberg is more of a wild card because of penalties, he needs to learn to play under control.
