That said, your take was bad back then and it's worse now. But glad you stand by it.
If you say so. For the record, I did say (in the very text you quoted) - "I think my dream scenario is for them to just keep trading down as much as they can and accumulate as many day 1/2 picks as they can." So in my scenario we don't have Sewell, but we have Micah Parsons and an additional day 2 player (Asante Samuel Jr maybe?)

Drafting Hooker makes it tough, but I say offer a 5th for Lance. Let him and Hooker battle it out for "QB of the future" over the next 2 years. Lance is 2 years younger than Hooker. Only problem is you probably have to keep Hooker on IR all year unless someone gets hurt.

"I said I wanted a trade down" is a pussy way out. Taking a QB back then was wrong...its pretty clear in today's NFL you build the team then insert QB, whether rookie or otherwise. Starting a rebuild with a rookie QB is just a recipe for disaster and rarely works ..especially an OSU or N Dakota State QB...
I wouldn't call it a fascination with Lance. I'd say it's more of a fascination with finding our next franchise QB. Hell, I would even roll the dice on Zach Wilson at this point. Not saying I believe any of these guys can be a franchise QB, I'm just saying if there's even a slight chance, I would roll the dice.
Bengals, Jags, and Buffalo all won the division last year. All were drafted by rebuilding teams.
There’s no one right way of building other than getting a good QB.
and I'd argue Bills and Bengals had many pieces in place, especially on D then added QB later in process
The Bengals had 4 of the same starters on defense in ‘21 as ‘20 when they drafted Burrow and one of them was drafted in same class as Burrow. They made big FA signings on D after Burrows rookie year(Hendrickson, Reader, Mike Hilton). They had 3 last season. So Burrow came into a roster with a D that held 2 starters 2 years after he was drafted.
Bills had a couple pieces in the secondary, but other than an aging Jerry Hughes they overhauled the DL over the next 2 years and the LB’s were drafted with Allen. They also almost completely overhauled the offense. 4 of 5 OL, every skill position changed.

Come on man...the Bengals were TERRIBLE up to and including Burrow's first year. They were 25-53 in the 5 years leading up to that and finished last in the division the 3 years leading up to drafting Burrow. If they had many pieces in place, they must have been Reese's Pieces.

who cares what their record was...I said pieces in place...a few were added the same year as Burrow, a couple after, but many of their starters have been there as long or longer than burrow...and I'm guessing even more were on the SuperBowl team 2 years ago
You guys are silly...its the NFL, pieces change a lot every year, but the core of these teams were in place or at the same time...Chargers too. I will say Dolphins are a little different though, which is why I didn't say all. But sure, these teams built around the QB first 🙄

You said they had “many” pieces in place. If you have pieces in place, then you don’t move on from most of them. Sam Hubbard is the only defensive contributor still on the roster from before Burrow. He was drafted in 2020, it hasn’t been that long. The Lions probably have as many from the 2020 season.
The Bills overhauled the entire offense outside of Dion Dawkins on the OL. The D had a solid pair of Safeties and Tredavious White. That’s it.
I disagree, I mean when you look back at the rosters, I see the ed Oliver's, Edmunds, etc, they weren't starting from scratch like the Lions or Texans.
That said, for the sake of argument...ok, you named 2 teams, and I'll even throw in the Jags...3 teams in the past 5 years are building that way...not exactly a great percentage...especially since none have won the SB...you know who has? KC, Eagles, Rams, etc that had a team and added the QB last...

Ed Oliver came after Josh Allen was drafted. The Lions have more 2020 contributors currently on their roster today than the Bengals did last season.
I just took 3 division winners from last year off the top of my head that I had a pretty good idea took the QB early in the rebuild and just confirmed. You listed just as many…so sure seems like my point of there’s multiple ways to build seems like a decent one.
I think having the team in place is ideal for sure. Just think it’s far easier said than done. You have to have patient owners that allow a slower build and the resources to get that QB when you think the roster is there. It’s also not a guaranteed success. Indy struggled for years and wasted some of their young guys prime trying to plug a vet QB into what looked like a ready roster. Denver was a disaster last year after trading for Russ.

Not to mention if you build a solid team prior to getting the QB, you're most likely not picking in the top part of the draft, making it much more difficult to draft one of the top prospects. So you basically have to luck into a Hurts like the Eagles did.
If they feel Lance is better than Bridgewater then pull the trigger. Goff, Lance/Hooker isn't bad, but what's lacking there? Experience. After Goff, experience is basically nill. So that's the trade off. Do they have enough faith in Lance to warrant letting Bridgewater go?

It's moot now, but they could have traded for him and kept Bridgewater and carried 3 QBs. Hooker will start the year on PUP or IR. They wouldn't drop Bridgewater after just signing him and he's the only legitimate backup they have.
