I would really like to see the Lions sign UFA Jamie Collins LB. We are really are weak at the LB position with only 2 good LBs in Kennard and Davis. I am not sold on Tavai at all.
And they traded him mid-season with some questions about him.
I’d like to see him brought in, but have to wonder if there’s more to it.
It had everything to do with money. He wanted to get paid and Belichick being Belichick won't pay anyone including Chandler Jones. Traded in 2016, he signed a 4-year contract for 50 million in 2017 with Cleveland. John Dorsey cut him this spring using the reason of production not commensurate with salary. He was due 10.5 million this year.
Collins when healthy averages over 100 tackles every season he plays. I would give him 1 year incentive laden contract totaling 7 to 8 million, with no guarantees. He is a nice insurance policy for Tavai not being ready to play.
I have no doubt money was a factor, but there was talk of effort and freelancing, not playing within the system. How much truth there was to that, I don’t know. It was out there though.

Freelancing, I did not hear about that. Not good, players have to perform their job in this system. Probably won't see him here, but the guy has talent with good size and speed.

Interesting twist. Reports that Collins is in talks with Pats.
Maybe it was Patricia that pushed him out.
It still would have been Belichick that agreed with Patricia if your speculation is correct. He then approved and made the trade. So the guy with the final decision would have been Belichick and Collins knows that. My question is, Why would Belichick want Collins back if he was freelancing with the team prior to his Cleveland trade?. Unless the freelancing rumor is false.

I would rather have a player with NFL experience as well. Taking a guy in the second is no guarantee that he is NFL ready. Not sure this is the guy, but any upgrade there would be welcome.
