Arm/athletic/mental talent, Young is probably the best QB prospect since Andrew Luck. Size is the only concern.
Stroud has the stronger arm and taller stature, but Young is faster and better leader. Both are very accurate and smart with the football. I would take either one. I put Stroud slightly ahead due to his height enabling him to see over the OL easier. Luv them both, going to be very good. My hope is the Bears beat the Packers this weekend and the Rams lose out. That would ensure that one of them is available for our Lions with the Rams giving us the 2nd pick in the draft.
Hendon Hooker could fall as well because of the injury, and using a 6th is worth the look.
Hooker will most likely be taken near the end of the 1st round to get the 5-year rookie contract. He is worth it too. If he did not have the injury, he would have gone in the top ten and still might depending on what the Panthers do.
It will be interesting, I wouldn’t be surprised if Levis shoots up into the #1 spot. He has every tool you want and I think the team being such a mess this year may have people overlook some of the play this year.
Don't like Levis, he does not process his reads well leading to mistakes. Same thing Josh Allen still does. He is one of the leaders for interceptions in the league most every year.

Lions have scored 24 or more points in 5 of their losses. So the offense appears to be pretty decent. That tells me that Defense is the #1 priority...period. So, drafting a QB with the 1st round picks should be the last thing on Holmes agenda. I see nothing in these QB's from ohio state or alabama that would translate into scoring 40 points a game... which is what would be needed to win these games they lost

Veteran QBs can use up a high percentage of the roster salary leaving management nowhere to go but cheap backups and weaker team. Therefore, scoring is not the point. If we can draft Bryce Young or C.J Stroud to perform at least at the same level as Jared Goff, we can trade Goff and remove his cap allocation from the books. Next year Goff will cost about 30 million against the cap. Whereas Stroud or Young would cost 6 to 7 million, saving of 24 million. What could we do with an additional 24 million cap space? I think Josh Jacobs would look really good in a Lions uniform next year. How about another safety like Jesse Bates from Cinci? Let's also resign our high performing free agents with better contracts so we can keep them and maintain a stronger bottom of roster.

I don’t completely disagree, but like Allen he’s physically able to do some things that almost no other QB can do. That’s gonna be intriguing, especially when teams consider the mess that Kentucky was this season.

Some truth to this, but this is ignoring some things like offensive turnovers in those games that were back breakers, the Miami game when they didn’t score for the entire second half, they’ve been one of the worst 3rd quarter offenses in football.
Also, you have to be in position to get a QB. Not saying they have to this year, but they are in a great position to get one and they may not be again for a while and we’ll be stuck being the Colts of the last few years or the Bengals with Andy Dalton.

C.J. Stroud kind of looks like a Dwayne Haskins to me and Bryce Young looks like another Fields. O.K. Haskins is a moot point but Fields may yet turn out to be something, but hasn't as of yet and he will be heading into year 3 next year. The lions clearly need a focus on the Defense...And FA doesn't seem to work out for the Lions. I think the Lions sign players that should work out but somehow they never seem to stay very healthy. Maybe just bad luck

I don't see the Young/Fields comparison at all. Fields is huge at 6'3" 227 lbs, and is 100% run first, pass second. Young is anything but huge at 6'0" 194 lbs, and has demonstrated great patience allowing passing routes to develop from the pocket, while only running when absolutely necessary (only 46 rushing attempts in 2022). I think Young is a true pocket passer with some escapability, but he certainly demonstrates a much better ball, with both touch and accuracy, than Fields will ever attain.

Yeah, it’s tough to find a comparison because of size with Young, but his pocket presence reminds me of Aaron Rodgers. Lofty obviously, but the way he maneuvers and anticipates pressure is something you can’t teach. He doesn’t have a top end arm, it’s good. And then size is gonna be the thing you have to really dig deep into. But when you have a QB that is comfortable in the pocket and can manipulate it to find lanes to throw and extend plays, you can do a lot.

yeah, what icloud said....no real issues in FA to me...
I don't have a problem with his FA philosophy of not making a big splash at this point in the rebuild, but really, of the guys he's signed, how many have made an impact? I mean, you've got Jamaal Williams obviously. Charles Harris seemed like a good one last year but this year not so much. I like the Cominsky signing and Buggs has been a nice low-end veteran type guy. Other than that, seems like a lot of flops. And that's without mentioning how he completely botched the kicker situation 2 years in a row.
My delayed reaction (just noticing this). You gotta' hand it to him for Josh Reynolds, Kalif Raymond, Craig Reynolds, Evan Brown (extremely underrated), and Brock Wright. Granted none are huge impact players but continue a pattern of getting above average starters for nothing. Similar theme with his latter round draft picks (St Brown, McNeil, Rodrigo, etc).
Keep doing that and now you can drop huge dollars on a QB (because you can), and win a few superbowls before your bargain players' contracts expire. Dynasties have been built the quadfecta of 1) star QB, 2) star CB, 3) star pass rusher, and 4) a whole squad of "average to above-average." And he's arguable got 3 out of those 4 in place already if you can wait another offseason for them to develop.
But yea, he has botched kicker and backup QB.

The way for the Lions to really open up their options in the draft is to get a DT in FA. Now, you can take trade downs from one or both of our first round positions. The first round CB's are a great group and there isn't that much separation in the group. The problem with DT's is that they seldom contribute that much in their first season, esp a player like Carter that isn't going to have the snap counts you want from a guy who is taken in the first round. I think we're in a position to trade down and still have 2 first round picks and additional pick(s) this year AND get an additional first next year. I don't think anyone could have predicted the breakdown of the Rams that has put us in this position, but now that we have it it's important to maximize our good fortune. If we walk with Bresee in the first along with Porter jr, and then get a MLB like Jack Campbell in the 2nd and grab a RB to do what Swift can't we're on our way. There are some decent to good QB's in this draft that will be there late, it IS a good draft for QB's just not so much at the top. You want guys who can run and pass, and in the 6th we should use 1 of those picks on the "best of the rest". Go to Walters and look at all the QB's AFTER pick #9. Why #9, because last year that's how many QB's were drafted and in a normal year there is 11. The one's they have ranked after #9? My favorite would be Duggan at #13, but there's no way he makes it out of the top 10, Bo Nix might very well be there though. Penix from Washington is also a guy to look at. Hendon Hooker could fall as well because of the injury, and using a 6th is worth the look.
I have to agree Dane after reading scouting reports on Walterfootball.com this is a good QB class with a lot of depth. There looks to be 3 QBs that I am going to label as tier 1 and have the talent to be Pro bowl caliber. Stroud, Young, and Hooker; all are first round QBs.
Tier 2 are QBs likely to be taken at the end of round one or throughout day 2 and could develop into solid starting NFL QBs. This tier includes Jayden Daniels (LSU, he is a dual threat), K. J. Jefferson (Ark, he is dual threat, very accurate), Tyler Van Dyke (Miami, very accurate pocket passer), Michael Penix Jr. (Wash, his scouting report is the best of this tier), Clayton Tune (Hou, 3 years of great production)
Favorite of tier 1 - Young (I luv Young, I think he can carry a team on his back like Rodgers and Wilson did for years)
Favorites of tier 2 - Jefferson, Van Dyke, and Penix

Last year was a shitty year to find a backup in the draft, this year, GREAT year to find a backup in the draft. Nate on a $1 million deal is cheap to keep. With our 6th round pick 1 of these guys is likely to be available.
Bo Nix Hendon Hooker (Age and injury) Jaren Hall Michael Penix jr Even a guy like Max Duggan, it's going to be a really weird draft for QB's this year. Only 9 last year, 12 or 13 this year IMO. No two sites are even close on who they agree on after the top 5, and there's a reason for that.
since we have Williams now wouldnt be surprised if we draft Young. similar situation worked for the Bengals, though it was QB first then WR there. could work here too

Gonna have to trade up for the #1 pick and somehow I think Houston won't give it up.
Im not sure its possible but Bryce Young is the dream pick here. Jamos QB in college. They have a history and a feel for each other pardon the gay pun. Jamo also took him #9 perhaps a silent opinion ? Bryce woukd be good. Strong defensive players too. This could be a history making draft next year if we do it right

People talk about Williams like he's a sure-fire NFL sensation. We don't even know what we have in him.

Yeah, WR hit rate isn't great, but it has gotten better.
