No. They’ve shown enough this season. More growth than I thought they would. One of the toughest schedules in the league and a 7-10 record with some nice wins over some good to pretty good teams, I’ll take that. Even if they laid a couple eggs, almost all teams do.
Even 2 bad losses to finish, once the anger wears off, would be hard to not see more positives than negatives in year 2 of a rebuild.

Also, while the Lions were probably middle of the pack as far as impactful injuries in the league, Walker really hurt, the (essentially) 3 games without Amon-Ra, Swift basically being a shell of himself since week 3, and the Cominsky injury early in the season may have cost them 2-3 games. That's without even mentioning the missed games at guard and other WRs.

Among defensive starters, the most tenured players other than Anzalone are 4th year players. Everyone on that side of the ball is 26 or younger except Anzalone, who is 28. Virtually the same can be said on offense, where Decker & Goff are 28, everyone else is 26 or younger.
Our rookies and 2nd year guys have gotten tons of valuable playing time, accelerating the maturity process. IMO, we are a full year ahead of expectations. I honestly expected to finish with a 2023 pick around 8-10, and challenge for a playoff spot next year. I did not expect to be playing meaningful December games this year.

I agree, but I also hope that doesn’t create a feeling of complacency. Maybe not the right word, but something similar to what happened after the 2011 season. That feeling of getting some guys back next year and development from young guys will be enough.
I don’t get the impression that will be the case. I feel like Holmes really did have a long term plan in how to build this, but there’s a small concern that maybe feeling like they’re ahead of schedule a bit could change some things.
Progress is the Lions don't become complacent and lose to inferior teams. Bears and Packers have no business beating the Lions and we should win our last 2 games. Anzalone, Rodriguez, and Melifonwu need to play to their potential. Thing is, Melifonwu was born to play strong safety in this type of defense. He has the perfect size, speed, coverage and tackling ability for the position. Only Elliot playing at Pro Bowl level has kept him on the bench.

Based on the angles he was taking against Carolina, I think it's safe to say that Elliot's performance isn't the only thing that has kept him on the bench so far.

its up to us. win next week and see what happens with seattle. thats what will decide if we continue. was fun as hell getting to this point. pumped for next week.
Playoff chance is pretty much gone. I was hoping the Jets would do something today against the Seahawks, especially with 10-days rest. Relying on the Rams to beat the Seahawks is fool's hope. So, before we bid this season adieu, we should introduce Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers to the New Kings of the NFC North. Yes Aaron "That Team", The Brand-New Lions who are going to kick your ass out of the playoffs Old Man. Your sycophants at ESPN, NBC, CBS, and the NFL Network will provide your eulogy and shed a few tears for old time's sake.

I would love to have the Lions boot the Packers out of the playoffs but I don't believe for one moment that the zebras are going to allow that to happen

Been there, know it, seen it. The NFL's lack of referee integrity has been on display for years. However, the Lions outclass the Packers so badly that excessive bad calls in favor of the Packers could damage the NFL at least for a while. Also, Vegas probably has a larger say on who gets what calls on any given weekend. I think the Lions could recover against 2 or 3 bad calls and still win. There is one thing I do worry about, Referees allowing the Packers OL technique of grabbing and holding the front of shoulder pads. Gives Rodgers all day to find a receiver. That shit should be a penalty, instead the Packers OL is lauded for it. If I am the Lions DL swiping, punching, and beating on Packers hands until they become stubs would be my remedy for that bullshit.

Agreed. Personally, after Carolina I wrote them off. It's pretty annoying how the figure heads use stats to keep discussions going just for material. Hearing a team is not "mathematically eliminated" because they've got statistically insignificant odds of success drives me up the wall. Still a great run though, of course.
Sucks that the zebras will hand Rodgers the game and a wildcard spot. At least the team is young, and will get used to the dirty tactics used by the pack.
