Mariota was cut. Galloday was cut. bet he ends up signing with Rams.
Mariota is better than Sudfeld. If not Wentz then Mariota, who is a dual threat.
Mariota is better than Wentz. At this point though, it's hard to imagine a team giving Wentz more than upper-level backup money. There's obviously something missing between the ears.
Either way, you're much better off with a rookie you can develop.

Would anyone be willing to take a chance on Zach Wilson as a backup/developmental guy? Who knows, maybe a season working with a veteran like Goff would be good for him. Of course he could be another Josh Rosen. But maybe for a 5th rounder?

if released, sure...wouldnt give anything for him tho...

As the #3 qb... But if Goff were to have a serious injury and go down for the count, then that's probably the season. Sudfeld might be ok as an emergency option for a dinged up QB, but he hasn't shown the chops to be a real replacement. I get it that "next man up" is all about the opportunity to get your shot. However, I think Sudfeld was just a wee bit better than the other backup Qb's in some eyes. Both Mariota and Wentz have a lot of starter reps and some success. Maybe Sudfeld is a late bloomer just waiting in the wings to emerge and show his greatness... But I highly doubt that. And Mariota and Wentz are not going to be offered anything close to a top dollar contract unless it is a heavily incentivized contract with a long laundry list of boxes to check off. Just a thought...But actually I am more intrigued by Mariota then Wentz.

Wentz has a rep of not being easy to deal with and the perception from some people was Mariota bailed on the Falcons when they benched him this year. Doesn’t seem to fit in with what’s going on here. Especially when both guys will likely cost high end back up money.

If it's a rookie not good enough to beat out the Nate Sudfeld's of the world, even as a rookie, then I'm not interested.
Also rostering 3 QB’s is a waste of a roster spot.
One exception could be Hooker, who would probably start the year on PUP. Then maybe you sign an Andy Dalton type to hold down the backup spot until he's ready.

Yeah, some logic to that. Price just has to be right on that back-up. Don’t want to allocate too much money there.
Jet's can't cut Wilson and no one is going to trade for him, he makes over $9 million this year and has a dead cap over $20 million, next year the dead cap is = to his salary, $11 million, so they save nothing by cutting him and no one is going to trade for him. Good draft this year for later round QB's, I like Stetson Bennett in the 6th for us. There will also be a chance with UDFA's. We aren't 2 QB's short right now, we're 3 short because you need that many to run the WR drills in preseason. As for a vet QB I would bring Josh Dobbs back, Tenn poached him off our PS and started him over Willis. The guy who backed up Wentz at NDSU was Easton Stick. He won all 8 games when Wentz went down his senior year and would have won the national championship but when Wentz, who had 2 losses, got healthy they let him take over and win it. Stick had 2 national champion teams and set a record for wins in the FCS. He's a free agent, was with the Chargers, I would bring him in for a look. Lot's of options, someone is going to pay Wentz, we don't need to throw money away.

Bennett will be a month shy of his 26th birthday at the start of the season. I'm not a fan of drafting a developmental QB who will be 30 before he's seasoned enough to be a regular starter.
I would love to see us pull the trigger on Max Duggan in the 3rd. The kid has moxie, and would be a perfect fit for the culture they're trying to build here.

He's definitely a Dan Campbell guy. 3rd is probably a reach though.
I'd take Bennet 100% over Duggan and I'm willing to be wrong on it. Duggan isn't good. Bennet has proven he can win, against the best in the country when surrounded by a top notch line, good running game, and decent WR's.... Sounds like he could do well in the Lions system. I don't see Duggan being more than a crappy back up for afew years and out of the league after his first contract. Would love to be wrong but he's Johnny Manziel without the coke habbit.
