5th rounder in return.
Too bad, I still think he has something to offer and he had a brutal start to his career between the injuries and being thrown in that Patricia system. Think his best role might be that hybrid slot/safety role like Gardner-Johnson and Brian Branch play. Kind of how they used him in the Boys game.

What's the point for a 5th rounder? Feel like there's still some upside there given the flashes he showed last year. Though I suppose given the torn achilles the cards are stacked against him. It's a shame as I think he would have been a great player if not for the career-killing injury.

I see that the trade frees up $5.2M in cap space, so not terrible, especially if they weren't planning on giving him the fifth year option (which seems pretty clear they weren't).
Still have to wonder if they would have been better off waiting until the draft and maybe using him as a sweetener in a deal if they wanted to trade up for a specific player.
I get the feeling he didn't play as well as the fans seem to think (myself included). He did get taken off the field a lot toward the end of the year. He seemed to play pretty well in the Dallas game.

I think he started strong and then it was real up and down.
I don't get this one. One of the very few bad off-season moves. I mean a fifth rounder feels weird. Joey Porter jr.
This tells me no one in the league was very interested. I doubt Holmes just accepted the first offer that was thrown at him. I'm sure he talked to just about every team in the league, and a high 5th was the best offer he got.
We get some cap relief, and a good guy gets a fresh start and can integrate into his new team before camp. Sounds like the Lions have done right by Okudah, and got a little something back for a player that didn't fit their long-term plans. With Okudah carrying an expensive 5th year option, he was basically on a one year show-me deal, much like several of the free agents we signed. He wasn't going to see the field much, barring an injury to one of the new guys.
he was a decent corner, good in run support which I liked. Before the injury was playing well, after injury he made a good come back, but not enough to warrant the spend.
I didn't realize this...I thought he played decent, but didn't consider the last six weeks, though during that time the Lions ripped, so it's strange...at this point I'd be very leery of drafting Buckeyes unless they are wr and RB ))
...From Week 11-17, before he missed Week 18 with an injury, Okudah drew a bottom-five coverage grade among qualified cornerbacks (minimum 20 percent snap share) in the league by Pro Football Focus...

he injured his shoulder before the Carolina game prior to that he played well, I think it is because they signed 3 guys and they all can't be on the field

I thought Okudah was a risky pick at #3. Injuries can happen to any player I concede. Hard to evaluate him because of that. But the New regime has evidently seen enough of him to bail for a 5th rounder. Very cringeworthy to take a look at all the talent the lions bypassed to make the Okudah pick. No use crying over spilled milk. We at least got a happy meal for him.
Don’t think Chase Lucas’ spot was written in stone.
Sutton, mosely, Harris, garner Johnson, okudah, jacobs...I actually forgot about lucas...that would be 8 if you draft one
I was mostly joking about Lucas, but Gardner-Johnson is listed as a DB by the Lions and Holmes or Glenn referred to him as a Safety. Id guess they’re keeping 10 DB’s(they kept 11 last year0, probably 6 CB’s and 4 Safeties. So even with Okudah they had 5 locks at CB, then you had Gardner-Johnson, Walker, Joseph and Moore at Safety, so there was still room for one more.
Now you probably have 4 locks at CB, 3 at Safety and Gardner-Johnson as that slot/safety. So a rookie and then you probably have Lucas and Melifonwu battling for last spot. So just more of a chance you’re holding on to one of your unproven picks over the last 2 drafts without sending them to PS.
