He tanked about mid-season.
But then so did everyone else in the entire defensive backfield.
Something else had to have been playing a factor. I don't think coaching staff has been maximizing the pieces they have back there. Moving Melifonwu around, throwing him to the dogs. Moving Harris from Safety. Firing the d-backs coach while never holding Glen accountable for anything.
Depth just took a hit and we still need help at LB and DT.

I see that the trade frees up $5.2M in cap space, so not terrible, especially if they weren't planning on giving him the fifth year option (which seems pretty clear they weren't).
Still have to wonder if they would have been better off waiting until the draft and maybe using him as a sweetener in a deal if they wanted to trade up for a specific player.
Sounds like the 5th year option might have swayed them the most. That would probably have been around $12 Million guarantee for 2024 season. Sure they could have turned it down and just let him play out the contract and dealt with it next season. But me thinks, he didn't like it in Detroit and just wanted to move on.
Waiting until draft day, I don't think many teams get desperate enough on draft day. Seems like more of a buyers market when it comes to players, most draft day trades involving players seem kind of underwhelming. I think back to Randy Moss was traded for a 4th rounder on draft day. He only went on to catch 23 TDs the next season with the Pats.
he should have not been put out there in the 1st place because of his injured should, Oruwariya was so bad that they put Okudah in a bad position, there is a difference between being benched and being removed for injury

Campbell was asked if it was due to the injury and said…
“Look, Jeff’s fine,” head coach Dan Campbell said. “Things happen. Jeff will rally back, and he’ll be ready to go“
Then when he was playing special teams reps in the next weeks after and asked if it was due to injury…
“No, I would say it was a couple of things last week we talked about,” Campbell responded. “I thought he came out ready to work. It was always about getting Mike Hughes more plays. I mean, Mike earned his right to play now too. And Okudah took some gunner reps for us because Mike was going to play more on the outside than probably Jeff was, and so they both played. No, listen, Jeff’s good. He’s helping us, man. He’s contributing.”
I thought it was odd to bench anybody specific in the Carolina game because they all sucked, but he was playing ST after that, there was clearly something they didn’t like that was happening.
He was benched at the end of the year, it wasn't the injury(s), it was him.
Hard to say an injury that derails 95% of NFL careers didn't play a part.
I think it’s more a reference to the shoulder injury that he ended up being inactive for the GB game. Which from the previous weeks and the things Campbell said, probably had more to do with him basically being a part time player and gunner before that.
I think I said it in that game thread, the way that game went and Okudah not being on the field, felt like the writing was on the wall for this. He just had up and down play and clearly at end of the season they weren’t on the same page. And considering he wasn’t one of their guys….

must be coach speak because he was listed on the injuery report for the shoulder for that game and the rest of the season

I think Ragnow was on the injury report all season and played, so not sure that makes a difference. No idea what was going on behind the scenes, but they were putting him on the field up until the GB game, so he was benched.
I like Okudah, wouldn’t shock me if he does well, but something happened at the end of the season that didn’t make the coaching staff think he should be playing over Hughes.
I wish him well it's obvious the staff was over him towards the end of the year, I have to wonder if his future is best suited towards a move to safety at this point he seemed to have the mentality for it.

it was the injury that put him on the bench
Nope, it was his play. "Early last season, Okudah was healthy and proved capable in coverage and as a run stopper. But his level of play fell off late, and he was benched in favor of Mike Hughes–who signed with the Falcons in free agency." "The Detroit Lions cornerback missed two tackles, was blocked out of a handful of chunk plays that came to his side of the field, plus allowed both passes thrown his way to be completed, including a 47-yard bomb just after halftime. Okudah was benched after that play and finished with just 44 defensive snaps overall, his lightest workload in a game where he was not injured this season."

That's fair, but I would argue the real injury (the torn achilles) was the biggest contributor to his poor play.

It slowed his development and looked like it hurt his confidence, which to me was the biggest issue.
