The perception of Swift nationally is wildly different than the people that watched the Lions every week. I get how talented he is, but he lived on the injury report.
yep...my steelers fan buddy called me and asked wtf the Lions were doing...once i explained he was like, i get it...
I am sure we will hear more about this, but stories coming out he wanted to get traded from Detroit.
he was the best back on the roster all 3 seasons and they would not give him the ball in spite of really good production, and then they draft a guy why would he want to stay
If a RB gets injured, it's most likely because he's just "too soft." And gets injured "too easily." Because as we know, football is a very gentle sport, and those at the Running Back position rarely, if ever, sustain injuries unless it's their fault.
So the only logical thing to do ... is to get rid of said RB, for another RB who isn't prone to injury. Because look. There are other RBs who aren't injured. Go get one of them. It's just so simple and logical.
Unless it's someone you draft. Then it's okay if they have to sit out the majority of the season. You see, because if they got injured somewhere else, that's okay. Because injuries happen. And they probably won't happen again. :P

Swift is gone because the the coaching staff thought he was difficult to coach and a lot of running to to the outside and falling down.
RBs are a dime a dozen. Swift is a guy on the last year of his contract, can be a good player but not worth extending. They got someone who does what he does but better and cheaper. And rumor has it, Swift asked for a trade after the Gibbs pick.
The continued Quinn purge continues....

whether Gibbs is better than Swift is yet to be seen, falling down? how many backs with at least 75 carries averaged 5.5 YPC

No one should question his ability. Though he did have tendency to not follow his blocks and try to bounce it outside, but you can overlook that in the big picture of what he could do. The main problem has always been his availability, so you rarely got to see that big picutre because he was limited so often.
I get you like Swift, I like him, too. He’s taking some undue shots, but reality is, Lions were not going to pay him after this season and likely didn’t feel like they could rely on him while trying to make a push for the playoffs because of his track record with health. Which is a perfectly understandable thought process. Trade is a win-win. They got some value back for a guy they weren’t going to retain, Swift gets a fresh shot with the Eagles before going into FA.
