I think he will try to get ahead of a hue deal and offer something now in the 30's with big incentives for playoff wins. I don't see that Holmes has any other choice.

Holmes has said he has reached out to his agent. I think he will try to get ahead of a hue deal and offer something now in the 30's with big incentives for playoff wins. I don't see that Holmes has any other choice. If he doesn't try to offer something soon and Goff has another really good year it can get pricey.
If he calls and offers something in the 30’s, he may have to find another choice because Goff’s agent may not pick up the phone again. Goff’s contract from ‘19 has an AAV of $33.5 and the cap was 188 that year. It’s set to be around 250 next season and Goff is coming off a pro bowl season. I’d guess his agent would think something in the 30’s with incentives would be insulting.
Exactly. And FYI, when I say $40-45M per, that is assuming Goff is giving a home town discount...both to repay Holmes and Campbell for saving his career, and knowing no other team will tailor the offense to him like the Lions did. He may get more on an open market, but his career will be shorter...

Hooker is leverage
But there is no way I see the Lions paying Mahomes money to Goff, nor do I see another team willing to sign him for that much. I understand what the QB market is, but that is only if someone is willing to pay that much.

In a year or 2 when Burrow, Herbert, Lawerence get their deals, Mahomes money may not even be top 10. He signed that deal one year after Goff did his with the Rams, to put in context the gap that can happen in a year. If Mahomes did a new deal now, he’s probably getting 55+.
I’m not advocating for it and I hope they’re smart about handling it, but think you need to brace yourself for what a new deal may look like if they do it considering the market.

There has to be another team in the NFL who would want him and be willing to pay him that much.
What team would be willing to do that????
Rodgers isn't worth 50+m a year, but the Jets are willing to pay that. There has to he a market for your services. I think there is here in Detroit, but that doesn't mean he would get that kind of money here or anywhere else. He essentially is in the best possible spot for success in the NFL in this offense. Someone will not pay him 45-50 a year because for that money the guy has to carry the offense on a struggling team willing to pay that much.
I am not dogging Goff, I think he is a great QB and glad to have him. I would take him over Stafford any day. I just don't see the market for him making 45-50 million on his next deal.

Derek Carr had a market this off-season and he’s 3 years older coming off a pretty sub-par season. He got 37.5 a year.
Shaky as he is at times, Goff is at worst a pretty good QB overall. That has a lot of value. If there is a team or teams, that isn’t in the range to get a top QB in the draft, but needs one and Goff is out there in free agency, they’ll pay the money or trade for him and pay him.
