If we still had swift I'd say go for it...but we have enough invested in RB room now...
Eh, I feel like given their ages Montgomery gives them at least what Cook would bring to the table.
Looking at their stats I don't think that is shown. Cook is a 4 time pro bowl player with almost twice the production. However, I do like Montgomery as he is a different kind of back. Jahmyr Gibbs hasn't played a down yet in the NFL so that has to be considered. Dalvin Cook on the Lions would without a doubt make the Lions one of the most formidable running teams in the NFL. Even if he doesn't produce at his past level. Imagine all three in the backfield at the same time. Ben Johnson would love this scenario as an option. So my point is a Cook V Hopkins management decision. Either one improves the team. Hopkins isn't what he once was either but he is still a very good player. I think that a Cook addition would be the better option of the two. Especially if one of the other Lions backs goes down. Probably never happen on either, but the lions have the ammo to get one of them. Cook would look at the Lions RB room and say to himself...I could lead that RB room.
Dalvin is better than Montgomery. But not that much better. This isn't like Tony Dorsett vs. Franco Harris but number wise it isn't that far off. If he wasn't expecting stupid money, we'd improve, but young guys like Jefferson, the new Mohammed guy and Craig Reynolds would instantly be waived or PSd. That said I wouldn't upset the apple cart. Montgomery is just under a thousand yards per year so it isn't like Eric Dickerson is out there. Cook would be better on another team. But wtf do I know? I don't think Lions are looking RB right now unless it's a steal and Cook will want to get paid. He earned it.
