The only defining thing about country music is the use of clever plays on words that make good bumper stickers, memes or coffee mug tag lines. And it's typically one phrase of the song, which is also most often the song's title.
And there's also a high likelihood that tag line will be a reference to adultery/cheating or some kind of dissatisfaction in a love relationship. Although it is also occasionally acceptable to deviate, as long as it's something VERY sentimental -- on those occasions it must also be a clever play on words, as long as it would make a good greeting card for a wedding anniversary or a "going away party" speech.
Although any and all afore-mentioned components can be ignored as long as there are enough references to alcoholic beverage consumption.
i.e. :
"To the person who cheated on me": [insert witty song title] "To the person my [love interest] left me for [or cheated with]: [insert witty song title] "To the person who broke my heart": [insert witty song title] "To the bartender who makes my favorite drink": [insert witty song title] "To my favorite drink": [insert witty song title] "To my darling daughter" (it's never to the son or husband -- country is pretty sexist): [insert witty song title]
That's all it is.

Is there still any real country artists anymore? It all sounds like Nickelback mixed with really bad rapping. I mean really really bad ...
I love how people think their musical taste is superior to others. You definitely have some garbage too that you think is really really good. But one man's garbage is another man's treasure.
Who cares about what is what....if people like it so be it. I was recently at one of these "Not country artists" shows and the crowd loved it. I equate this pop country like Wallen, Church, Chesney and the like to 80s hair metal. A lot of people hated it, but a lot more like it, because it was fun. Too much depressing shit in music (because that is where a lot of it comes from), sometime people just want to be lifted up and party. I see nothing wrong with it. But haters gonna hate.
And Nickelback is still a great band!

Looks like a struck a nerve. No Nickelback really does suck and so does 98% of modern music.

Well you obviously don't know much about country or country lifestyle or have any friends that are rednecks because a good part of their lifestyle is working outside working hard and going to bars and having fun. Most people know most people and there is a great camaraderie among rednecks or country folk that is part of their life and country music is a big part of that. A lot of bar nights a lot of relationship stuff a lot of trying to get things right a lot of struggling with money a lot of just normal everyday s*** that is just cool and some of the best people I know are from the country and are rednecks. Even though I'm a hybrid as they say I'm about a third country and 2/3 City that's what they tell me and they also tell me that I should never tell anybody that I write books but that is joking around the main point here is that there is a lifestyle in the country that only those that have lived there can understand it and country music brings that all together it's like the glue that holds the whole community together that whole lifestyle so if you put down country music it's obvious that you have never known people or been a part of that community.
That said music is music and everybody has their different tastes as golden says people in the country also listen to rap rock heavy metal it doesn't really matter there's no stereotypes it's just a certain kind of music that people like enjoy not everybody just listen to one kind of music that's just ridiculous country music is just a certain vibe like hard rock like rap like anything else people talking about their struggles or their communities..i.e. the life they know
*Just started doing the talk to text thing and it sounds wonky but whatever

It wasn't a knock on the people or culture so much as a comment on the music genre. I know plenty of "city folk" who are die-hard country fans. And you could write a formula for most genres of music. It's corporate-driven, so naturally what sells will tend to be recycled. I could't tell you the words to most of the music I like; I'm more in to melodies. And even those get recycled. Every now and then, something truly unique emerges. Johnny Cash comes to mind. I don't know if it's possible to put a label on what that guy did.

True. People like jellyroll roll used to rap then he wrote songs from the heart. Certain people are unique but there are a lot of cookie cutter shit out there just like movie knockoffs TV show knockoffs, all that...trying to profit on the success of others, even NFL teams revamp etc...the original ones I like. Good point tho Rusty
