Everyone is saying this undrafted rookie from UAB is lighting it up. If he don't make the 53 he's def going on the PS...Aaron Glenn said something to that affect though I'm paraphrasing
You know...that got me thinking....all these "injury prone" guys the lions shipped out....they are mostly staying healthy and lions continue to have injury issues...

I assume you're talking about Swift...I'm definitely surprised he's held up to where I haven't even seen him on an injury report. Who else is there? Didn't Okudah miss most of preseason and the first few weeks of the season?
The Cardinals are 1-8 and probably need a guy like Starling to play. looks like they have a couple of CB injuries over there that elevated him. I am not sure what he would be more than a special teams guy on the Lions.
Swift had his two big games that overinflated his stats and now just looks average. His durability seems unusual. But obviously the Eagles like Gainwell better than Swift. And with Monty coming back and Gibbs, hell even Reynolds, not too concerned with not having Mr. Swift on the team, especially after he whined when they drafted Gibbs.

Obviously? Swift has like 3x more touches and nearly twice as many snaps.
Oops...my bad, but I stand by everything else I said about Swift
Talent was never the knock on him regardless. He's staying healthy and being used like a complete back. Dude's even drawing fines for laying too much wood in his power game. Ha ha He's too aggressive, imagine that.
I've made this observation in the past. Lions aren't as good at utilizing highly-talented players as they are getting the most out of high effort over-achiever types. And part of that is a culture that rewards laying bodies on the line and fighting through injury, etc. Not surprising we tend to be a battered bunch. Comes with the territory.
Perfect example is (warrior type) Glasgow thriving and getting the starting nod over Vaitai, who is the more purely talented of the two. Vaitai might be a better fit in a more talent-driven culture that doesn't stress "making the play even if it kills you."
There is the field of thought that says "save yourself -- it's not worth it, it's just one play." And thankfully, that's the philosophy they take with Goff. The QB position needs to be the exception, and wisely they're able to create that culture that says "go out there and destroy your body on every play, except you Jarred. Just throw the ball away if the play's not there. There will always be the next play."
That's not a knock on the team or organization. It's just part of their identity. The whole "warrior mentality" (next man up) ... thing.

I don’t think Swift has looked any different. He’s just stayed relatively healthy. You give him a hole and get him in open space and he’ll make plays. He also at times makes bad reads if he has a smaller lane and tries to bounce it outside. Like Golden pointed out too, he’s had 2 great games and hasn’t been as efficient since then.

if you say so....
Although I'm guessing the light practice yesterday and no practice today has more to do with it...but what do I know?

Interesting. I wonder how different teams practice differently.

Positions and playing time aren't as up-for-grabs so there's less competition. And less incentive to play all-out.
There's a receiver spot, a guard spot, and playing time at RB, LB, and all along the defensive line. Just sitting there for the guy who wants to sacrifice his body and bite off a few knee caps on the practice field.
