Wouldn’t say shocker, a little surprising but he was in a tough spot. They really needed more depth on the outside and he’s probably at his best in the slot. Plus you had guys like Thomas, Gilmore, and Doresy playing well.
Hopefully Lucas clears waivers and they can get him back on PS.

I’d be a little surprised if they kept Julian Okwara at this point. Could make an argument for 7 edges if you only keep 4 DT’s with some of the edges having some flexibility, but doesn’t leave a lot of flexibility inside if you lose a guy like Buggs or Martin and if you keep 12 DL it’s definitely gonna thin you out in other spots.

Starling Thomas waived. Expected to be back on PS. That one surprises me. Thought he’d be CB4 on the outside. Looks like Gilmore may have won that one.
Especially with Cabina that has often been hurt and dropped every damn pass thrown his way. Id cut him and use a TE there and keep Netflix or Snell.
Edit, found this blurb:
While fans are likely scouring the waiver wire to see who the Lions will be adding, I’m not looking any further than their own cuts.
If I had to guess right now, Reynolds is likely on his way back to the roster. You see, as a veteran player with four years of experience, Reynolds was RELEASED not WAIVED. That means he is not subject to waivers. The Lions may have very well approached Reynolds, told him they are going to cut him with the full intention of signing him back in a couple of days. Reynolds is a good candidate to make this move because he had no guaranteed money on his contract, and therefore, no dead cap after this cut.

They kept Melifonwu and he’s been hurt, but I don’t think they can IR him now or he’d be out the season. Maybe they put him on IR and then bring Reynolds back.
They’re definitely thin on offensive side of the ball right now.
Who? He was one of their best defensive players in camp and preseason and is finally (maybe) healthy. Who would you keep over him? Personally I would have dumped Melifonwu and kept Thomas, but it's probably a crapshoot either way.

Yeah Levi has looked pretty good and would be horrible return on investment to bail now once he seems to be healthy and has something to offer.
They’re holding 12 DL, which is crazy, especially when you add in they’re carrying 11 DB’s, too. Those 2 positions are more than the entire offense. I get it, to an extent, good spots to secure depth !75 definitely feels like something else is coming.

A little surprised Patterson is still the Kicker. They let him go because he was inconsistent last year and he’s been inconsistent again and clearly lacks power.
Was he? most people just see the Carolina game and think he sucks.
In reality, he made 85.7 percent of his field-goal attempts (17th in NFL) and 97.3 percent of his extra points (6th in NFL) last year in Jacksonville. He is a serviceable kicker that people just read blurbs of how terrible he is and think it is fact. And really the Lions have better things to worry about. If you have to rely on your kicker to make multiple 50+ yard FGs then you have an offense that ain't worth a shit.

Brad Holmes has completely botched the kicker position since he's been here. We're talking epic level botch. Patterson is nothing special, but he was still better than Badgley last year. Holmes has literally kept the wrong kicker every single year he's been here (which you could argue doesn't bode well for keeping Patterson this year). But at this point I don't see anything better available right now. It's not like they're gonna give up a high draft pick for a kicker. Although the way Holmes has handled kickers so far I guess it wouldn't surprise me.

Little over dramatic, don'tcha think? If you actually look at the stats, the kicking game hasn't been that bad compared to the league.

I meant with the Lions in camp. All the beat guys said he was inconsistent. Which is why they didn’t hold on to him. Also Jacksonville saw a chance to upgrade from him and did.
And yeah, I want a Kicker with range there’s going to be times you can’t go for it on 4th down or you’re trying to get points before halftime. You may be driving the field for a game winner late. A guy you can’t trust from 55+ makes a difference.
