Don't mind the Peoples-Jones move. He was productive last year with really bad QB play.
Young for a 3rd sounds nice and all but there was no way he was ever going to the Lions.
he doesn't fit the Lions or what they want. He is off the field on rushing downs and is a situational player that will cost a truck load of money for a long term deal.

Yep, and as much as I don't care for the term, he's not a "culture fit". There's a reason he didn't command as much in a trade as Sweat.

Exactly. Sweat is a 3 down guy that might lack some pass rush but he does not leave the feild.
DPJ - Holmes has missed on these project cast off WR's. Hopefully he contributes. I always like him at Michigan. Probably why they felt he was a good culture fit in the locker room. Not a lot of draft capital spent.

I haven’t heard anything negative about Young in terms of attitude or anything like that. Unless I missed it. I’d guess he cost less because his injury history is so bad.

Dorsey got hurt as a returner and DPJ can step right in there. And Marvin gone Jones has to be able to be able to fill the little he was doing. DPJ did put up 800 Yards last year so has been a contributor.

I listen to the Junkies a lot out of DC and while I don't think he's a "toxic" type of locker room guy, it seems to be pretty common knowledge there that he's a very reserved guy and doesn't fraternize with the other players and doesn't live and breath football. Not saying that's necessarily a bad thing but I don't think that's the type of guy Holmes/MCDC generally go for.

I was fine with what Holmes did. Keep building through the draft and you also have money to spend next year without giving up picks - Lions have a first, a second and 2 thirds, a 5th, 6th and 7th. If Aaron Glenn gets hired, boom, you get another 3rd - 5 picks in the top 105 probably.
Also, the cap is in great shape to re-sign free agents in the years to come-
2024 - Jonah Jackson, Jerry Jacobs (restricted!), Benito Jones (restricted!), Brock Wright (restricted!), Houston (ERFA!) and probably a long term deal for Gof
2025 - Amon St. Brown, McNeill, Derrick Barnes, Levi Onwzurike (prefer not to), Cominsky, Glasgow...Sewell will get 5th year picked up
I'm not saying you have to keep them all but you are going to have to pay some of these guys. Lions got to 6-2 with what they have and the talking heads that believe you can get anyone just isn't real. Baseball, Basketball and Hockey have WAY more active trade deadlines than the NFL.

I saw something where they went through and looked at all the big deadline deals the last several years and how many of them resulted in a championship for the team that made the trade. The only one was the Rams trading for Von Miller. They gave up a 2nd & 3rd rounder and Miller was gone the next season. Big splash trades are far from a guaranteed success and if it doesn't work you most likely hurt your chances going forward long-term.

I’m fine with what they did, but I’m not sure that’s the best measure if the trade was a good idea or not. I’d be more interested in for teams that gave up something of value, what was the return? How long was the player there, what was the production like?
I also think we’ve only really seen real movement at the deadline for a few years now since they moved the deadline back.
the more i read up the better i like the trade. DPJ had a good year last year but was stuck with garbage as QB this year. gonnabe a great trade in the end.

I'll try to find the article, but from what I remember most of the players weren't even with their new team for very long. Another one you could argue worked out even though they didn't win the Superbowl that year was the Rans trading for Ramsey. They ended up missing the playoffs that year but he was a big part of the Superbowl run a couple years later (probably more so than Von Miller).
This trade...he's a deep threat WR...what's the message here?
I'm sure Jamo's lack of development is part of it, but I think it's mostly that it's a high character guy that can do a lot of things well. They love those types of guys. He's basically a younger (and bigger) Kalif.
There was a part of me thinking they were gonna trade Jamo yesterday and the fact that they didn't tells me that maybe they still have some hope for him.

I was thinking the Christian McCaffery trade, too. Dolphins traded for Bradley Chubb last year, too. I think the deadline has changed a little bit and it’s not just trying to get a piece to get over the top. Sometimes it’s almost another version of free agency for some teams.

Yeah I think they like to rotate their WR’s and have certain packages they like certain guys for. Losing Marvin put them a man down there.
If it says anything about anyone, probably that Antione Green wasn’t ready to step in.

trade him to who and for what? Is there a market for him? What team would want to take on that cap hit for zero (very very little) production
