We got out-coached and out-played, trying to be too cute. Glad they finally went back to our strength in OT.
I kept wondering if Montgomery was injured. I'm not sure he had a touch in the 2nd half. Odd gameplan. Goff was not sharp. Glad we got the win. That level of performance will not win many games.

Bad play all around for a team with SB aspirations. Goff was mediocre but made some good plays. But good teams find a way to win. They looked rusty and I think it showed
But like Jamo just said they gonna come back better next week. Dan Campbell will say in the post game “gotta clean some stuff up”
D Mo was a baller in OT.
Love it, hate that I didn’t take the day off tomorrow.
Defense playing more bend but don't break, mixing in some zone and probably the least amount of blitzing I have seen by AG. Arnold looked Ok for a rook, Branch should settle in his new role at S and take better angles, break down make the tackle and limit big plays The DTs were pretty quiet all game.
Offense was rusty, Goff was not sharp and not yet concerned but I will be watching. Hopefully just first game and he will get better. Not sure what happened to St. Brown. Not seeing any play action really which is weird.
The last drive in OT was epic. That is what top teams do, find ways to win. A win ia a win, but we got some work to do.
pass protect was horrible. losing josh reynolds was huge. savig grace was D and run game in OT. lots of work to do. 1-0 better than 0-1. onto next week. tough stretch.
Those saying lions were outcoached...I don't think so....I think lions were very conservative on purpose...I think feeding jamo was the gameplan, not for this game, but for future games...
I do think lions were conservative, but not necessarily outcoached...I do think those 2 endzone PIs were questionable and I wasn't surprised as the NFL loves nothing more than close games
I think the facts the rams had to come out throwing short all nigtlht is a very positive sign...if a team like the rams had minimal success and gad to throw short all night, that is very telling...fyi vic, that's not bend don't break, that's rams scheming....they didn't trust their online enough to protect so got rid of the ball fast...hard to defend
So, this was the lions pre-season, imo...while I would have liked to see more domination, I think they were being conservative, setting stuff up for the future , saving special plays, etc and gave away just what they had to....
I will say, branch had a rough game, with a few great plays, but I'm encouraged by yhe new DBs

My reference to being outcoached is based on the following points: 1. Nakua left the game very early on, and they had neither of their starting OT's. By the end of the game, their entire o-line was a patchwork of 2nd and 3rd stringers, yet we couldn't manage to stop them from marching up and down the field. 2. Their defensive focus was clearly to take away the middle of the field in the passing game, but we didn't appear to make many adjustments. Goff looked like his first and second reads were always over the middle. 3. The complete lack of touches by Montgomery in the 2nd half. I don't think we exposed any of our playbook depth in OT, but what we did was get back to the style of play that won games for us last year. Power running football. I appreciate wanting to get both Jamo and Gibbs touches, and am all for it. However, with a two touchdown lead in the 2nd half and the offense having less than 40 plays by mid-4th quarter, we should have been doing what we did in OT throughout the 2nd half.
I think the Rams throwing short all night likely had more to do with a makeshift o-line and Nakua being injured early on than anything, but we'll have to wait and see. I do agree that this was a preseason game for the starters, and it definitely looked like it.

Rams had a good gameplan on both sides. They used quick passing game to help the OL and used a lot of motion to help free their WR’s off the line. And Stafford was just really good, evaded a 2-3 sacks and made some big plays that should have been dead. Missed tackles didn’t help the Lions, either.
And like icouldbelion said, Rams D seemed to really muddy up the middle which is where Goff is at his best and where he usually finds Amon Ra and Laporta. Add in offense wasn’t running the ball quite as well as they normally do, until OT. Rams did a good job creating some pressure, too. Though I do think Goff was a little jumpy at times when he didn’t need to be.
I know a lot can be made of how beat up Rams were, but getting that win with Amon Ra and Laporta combining for 7 catches and less than 60 yards is something I wouldn’t have thought could happen.

Definitely a nail biter of a win.
I think we looked a bit rusty, probably from lack of playing in the preseason.
Stafford played really well despite having almost zero help. Mont went total beast mode to end is for us.
Kinda ironic that I felt we won that game in the same way we won some games with Stafford. That is, you can't always expect to come back and win. So I hope we clean this up because I think our offense can look a lot better.

The Lions last year were a top 10 defense second half of the year when they didn't blitz.
I think we are going to see a much more conservative approach to defensive schemes. Lions could have countered the short quick pass game with more man press but decided to play it safe between the 30s and make Stafford throw 40 times. In the end it paid off. What hurt the Lions of D was penalties, not scheme.
I don't think the lions were oit coached, but would have like to see more play action passing. I don't think the Lions were holding anything back as much as just trying to find a rhythm.
Don't get the Josh Reynolds mentions here. This unit hasn't played any real games in a while, on both sides of the ball. They were rusty. It was week 1 fellas. That should be expected. To pull out a win is something new here. We didn't used to do this. Play sorta meh but still find a way to win. That's a huge takeaway here. Just want to give a shout out to Frank Ragnow during that OT drive. My man was pushing guys back damn near into the secondary on that final drive. Re-Watch the Montgomery runs. Watch Frank... It was a thing of beauty and to bring in a well rested Montgomery when the Rams D was sucking wind going into OT? That was a friggin awesome drive. Our O line is a bunch of dogs and Ragnow and Penei are phenomenal players.
My heart skipped a beat when Jamo was slow to get up, but stay healthy kid...he's like a Colt getting ready to bust out of the pen. If they bring a safety down on him AMSB will reap the benefits. If they double AMSB then Jamo will open it up for La Porta and Gibbs. There's a lot of weapons and shout out to Anzalone. Thor played a fucking game boys
*They need to fix the turf at FF. Guys were slipping and falling all over. I'm sure the boys brought that up but they changed the turf that one year but last year it seemed ok. I don't know. Dirt was flying.

I would only start missing Reynolds if Williams or St. Brown go down. I think yesterday proves we can move the ball and still not fully utilize our receiving core.
Y'all already touched on my biggest concern(s). I had not thought of it before-hand, but given that they were playing the Rams in week one, choosing to not play the majority of the starters during the preseason appeared to be a mistake. I think these guys were rusty. It's the only explanation for not executing with ease against a severely depleted Rams offense. I may have pie in the sky hopes, but I fully expected an offensive juggernaut from the Lions offense.
Davenport looked decent. I'm hoping he is a little faster and also just rusty.
Hutch is getting screwed by the officials. I hope someone points it out.
WTF is the deal with the turf? Way too much slippage by the home team. Our guys should know that turf. Something is definitely strange.
This is still a big win. Chicago got away with a win in spite of their golden boy and both Chicago and Minnesota drew the lucky week one bye week game. Green Bay took a loss to a very good (again) Eagles team. The Lions eeked out a win against a good opponent. They definitely need to clean some stuff up, but I think they will.
Bears and Vikings likely played the two worst teams in the NFL. Agree lions were rusty but i expect a big improvement next week. TB will be tough. need to bring up a big body receiver. Kennedy was no help.
