I actually agree. I’m not a fan of some of the things they are doing, but they building this roster for Patricia and his plan and I think you give them one more year before hitting the button and nuking the FO, coaching staff, and roster.
I did find it interesting that the Ford’s mandated coaching staff changes. Think everyone can probably guess the first one. I just hope that it’s also a wake up call to Matty that he needs to change some things.
How hard is it for Matty P to chime in and call another look on D? The DC is a fall guy! The blame goes squarly on Quinn for building a shit roster and Matty P for his defense shitting the bed
I have said it all season long, even now with almost half the season opening roster on IR....The Lions are losing much better than I can ever recall. They are almost winning the close games..against some pretty good teams early on. And I go back to watching in the 60's. Just no Depth...period. No pass rush...Linebacking is in need of serious upgrade, DB's are having to cover too long...no pass rush. This is like Ground Hog day..

2 years to take a 9-7 team to 3 and whatever seems like enough. They'll draft some players and overpay some more FA's to fit a system that they can't run so we can trade them for 5th round draft picks after these asshats are gone.
A complete rebuild would require everything to be replaced. They haven't done that, they have gotten rid of players that didn't fit there system. I would say it is a retooling of players to fit a scheme versus trying to work with players that don't fit what you want. But you keep harping the word rebuild like it means something, when it doesn't mean shit.

Did you have confidence that those 9-7 teams were anything special? It took a lot of miracle comebacks for them to win games against shitty teams. If this works out, it will be worth it and all the neysayers will just go back into hiding or jump back on the bandwagon. If it doesn't work out, Patricia and Quinn both get blown out and they can start over again. Either way, you get what you want.
If anyone is surprised by this, you don't live in reality.

you mean a REBUILD?
Not a total rebuild..The Defense...the DC...sorry but I saw regression from 2018. Free Agency should target pass rushing help. If they are lucky they may get the #2 pick...Chase Young..I think the Defense needs the most help. Also have some FA of their own. OL....Never can have enough. I think unless we lose a bunch of OL the offense looked decent until Stafford got hurt. Who knows..they better bolster up the D. Hard year to judge because of all the injuries. But that is a concern that either we are damn unlucky with injuries or we have a lot of brittle players. There is talent on this team..just not enough..and Depth, Depth, Depth

The defense on paper was suppose to be the strength of this team at the start of the season. I don't recall anyone saying that the defense would have been as bad as they were this year. You have to wonder if it truly is the schemes (falling on the coaches) or the players not executing the game plan.

Injuries were a huge factor. Hand and Daniels were basically out the entire season. So you had 2 run stuffers inside with virtually no ability to push the pocket. This also took away some of that ability to be “multiple”, that Patricia loved to talk about. Flowers is at his best being moved all over the line, rushing from interior on passing downs. Can’t really do that as much if you don’t have the DLineman to move with him.
The LB’s generally suck. Tavai actually had a decent rookie year, but he still limited in coverage. Davis and Jones were horrendous and will likely be back. They need to find someone to play next to Tavai and turn Davis into a package guy.
I can’t even beat up the secondary too bad, because what they were asked to do wasn’t really fair. I saw at one point that the Lions had allowed opposing QB’s the top 4 games in terms of time in the pocket to throw.
All that said, scheme without a doubt was the biggest issue. They did some interesting things early in the season against KC and GB, but once that was there for other teams to see and counter, they didn’t seem to do anything to adjust. Granted injuries limit how much you can do, but for most part they just kept trying to hammer that square peg into the round hole.
With Ford’s mandating some staff changes, I’d be shocked if Pasquloni is back, but unless Patricia admits he needs to make some schematic and philosophical adjustments, it won’t matter.

It's hard to argue against that. The only point I guess I could make is that the offense (while Stafford was healthy) this year was significantly improved over Caldwell and was much more creative. Bevel has done a great job.
Last year's defense ended up being one of the better in the league by end of the season.
If they can bring last year's defense together with this year's offense we can get to 10 or 11 wins pretty easy.

Just received this via email from the Lions. A lot of the same thing we have heard the last 12-18 hours.
—————————————————-
Open Letter to Lions Fans
Our 2019 season has not gone as anticipated by anyone in our organization. Our team has played hard and well enough to be very competitive. It has been well-documented that we are one of only three teams to have held the lead in each of our first 12 games. Unfortunately, all too often, we have come up a few plays short of victory. Our current win-loss record is ultimately very disappointing.
As we evaluate this season, we look beyond just our record. We are striving to build a team with a strong foundation of high-character players and coaches, that is physically and mentally tough, with depth at every position and one that can be successful over many years, not just one season. We see signs of this foundation in our team's toughness, competitiveness and culture. Injuries happen in the NFL and are never an excuse. Nonetheless, our team has played through serious injuries this season to some of our best players. Despite the injuries, we have remained competitive in each game and our team depth showed up as a strength.
We also believe that the most successful teams in our league have a long-term plan, stability in leadership and exhibit patience to follow their plan. To that end, we are committed to year three of Coach Patricia's plan. To be clear, our expectation is for the Lions to be a playoff contender in 2020.
To our dedicated fans: You deserve a winning team that you are excited to cheer for and proud to represent. Our entire organization is working to make the Lions a consistently winning team.
To our loyal season ticket members: Thank you for your continued support. We are announcing today that once again there will be no price increases for season tickets at Ford Field and several sections at the stadium will see price decreases. We want our fans to fill Ford Field for every game, continuing to make it the great home field advantage that inspires our players and makes it difficult for our opponents.
Thank you for your continued support, Happy Holidays and GO LIONS!

Last year’s D was better against the run, but still was bad against the pass. They’re pretty similar this year actually, I do think they’re worse, but a lot of the issues are the same.

True
We still have Stafford and Mulbach, so its not a complete rebuild
So they already "retooled" the roster, or did a roster "makeover"
But looks like Quinn gets another opportunity to rebuild...eerrrrrr retool the makeover of his original retooling because it looks like the team is a complete dumpster fire!

You need to rebuild some original ideas, because you look like a tool.

Trying to be clever? Keep trying Goldie 😉
Point being...Quinn rebuilt the whole roster. He gets to do it all over again? What's one offseason going to change?

wtf are you talking about? The offense has been as good or better than ever...maybe add a rt, but other than that, the O looks good. Why would that need a rebuild?
The D...we have some pieces, just need a few more...what is it with you and the word rebuild? Youve used that word for 15 yrs now....they need another pass rushing DE, maybe a pass rush DT, maybe 1 more CB....the only thing that needs a rebuild is the LB corps....

Well still can't run the ball at all. You have a lot of contracts coming up here with Galloday, Wagner, Amandola, Jones, Glasgow. Need a RB that can stay healthy. There are some pieces there on offense that is missing for sure, and that OL is terrible in run blocking. And Bevell still has the tendency to call some questionable calls. Overall I like his scheme and I think it fits well with Stafford.
Regarding the D having a few pieces.... You need a DL, LB core, and secondary depth big time. Slays contract is coming up. Somehow they need to find guys that can stay healthy.
The key is not creating more holes and filling the voids. But the guys they have ...aside from that WR core on offense, every squad is questionable.

Well, in Vic's defense I suppose you could argue this team has been in a rebuild for 60 years.
