Piggy face? Ahhhh 2009, I wonder who this could be about xD ...
<93 minutes later> So after a quick skim of 77 pages, I think I'm caught up to speed now. 10 years later and some of you are still not convinced about Stafford haha. Although the bulk of that thread was prior to 2011.
There are no excuses anymore for Stafford. He has to play better. We've had multiple OC's, multiple OLINES combinations, multiple receivers, multiple backs. Everything has been changed and tried. This only thing consistent is him. And no, his fake come back stats against soft zone in the 4th quarter don't count. Good teams do not need to come back to win every week. The only person left to blame is him.
I would not object to the Lines taking a potential future QB in the 2nd or 3rd round next year. I'm just over this.
Stafford is good, but he's not great. And we need a great QB to consistently win.
That might be my biggest pet peeve regarding the 4th quarter comeback stat, which everyone likes to hold in such high regard for some reason. What was the QB doing the first 3 quarters against a standard defense that makes him so great against prevent defense in the 4th? To me that's more of an indictment against prevent D than anything. I mean I guess it's better than finishing the game awful too, but the reason nobody talks about Tom Brady's non existent 4th quarter comeback prowess is the fact that he's rarely trailing in the 4th quarter, because he played well enough in the first 3 quarters to win.
Cousins reminds me a lot of Stafford, or vice versa. They both put up pretty decent numbers, above average, but neither win. Neither QB strays far from .500. Stafford at least has that 4th quarter comeback ability. If Cousins is awful the first 3 quarters, he usually finishes up awful in that 4th quarter as well.
Stafford and Cousins are eerily similar except Stafford is way better at coming back in the 4th quarter. Cousins is just more consistent throughout a game, if he starts off good he probably finishes good, but if he starts off bad, it's probably going to end bad too. Which tells me I can probably turn the TV off by halftime if it's not going well xD.
The reason all 3 appear to have eerily similar numbers is because Brady is doing most of his damage through the first 3 quarters and coasting in the 4th while the other 2 generally have to play a full 4 quarters and are probably racking up a lot of garbage stats in the 4th.

Completely agree. Years ago I started calling Cousins Stafford 2.0. And while I agree with everything else you say about Stafford, I don't know if I buy the whole prevent defense thing as a reason for the comebacks. Teams generally aren't in a full-on prevent in the 4th quarter and up by a score or less (which is what those comebacks are defined as). The prevent generally happens when it's more than a 1 possession game. Of course when the clock gets down to around 4 minutes or so, there are other factors at play such as keeping the ball in the middle of the field and not having to play the run, but I don't consider that a full-on "prevent". In a way it's more difficult for the quarterback in that situation because they have a very limited amount of field to use, especially if they don't have any timeouts to use and time is a factor. And if I remember correctly, Prater was unconscious that year from 50+ that year Stafford has all the comebacks, which meant he didn't always have to go very far down the field to put them in a position to score. Stafford was also playing for a new contract that year.

Oh I don't know about that lol. Some teams, like the ones that don't know how to win, seem to go into prevent mode any time they have a 1 possession lead, even if it's in the 3rd quarter xD. I'm looking at you Vikings .
Just realized now that ¼ of piggy face starts and ½ of his wins have included a GWing drive lol. What the heck is that guy doing quarters 1 thru 3? Lions must be in a lot of nail biters.
Stafford is perhaps the most overrated NFL QB in history. The amount of praise he received from some media and Lions fans for the last decade is sick and disgusting. All the Lions fans did was blame everyone except the one constant on this team for the last 11 years. He was and still is a cap killer who put the Lions at a mathematical disadvantage to build a well rounded team for 11 years. Stafford never had the IT factor or talent to be a star player but he was sure was paid like one. It was never the Fords fault or the GM's fault or any of the players fault for the Lions failures over the years. It has always been the Lions fans fault for blindly supporting overpriced overrated players. Stupidest fans in the country!
Fitzpatrick on Miami virtually has the same stats as Matt Stafford. He is known as a disposable journeyman. Yet Stafford is continually Hailed as a top-five quarterback. The pregame show on Fox 2 Detroit right now has Stafford talking about he has to work on certain things. When does this veteran need to stop working on things that are so elementary? It’s the same old story. Local media say the problem is the GM and the coach. When will anybody in Detroit besides Blog let you know that the Major trouble With the Lions is the Stafford?

If the Lions had played average defense during the course of Staffords career they would have a 60% winning %

So 11 years of building around Piggy and we're still not there. This time it is the coaches fault. I have seen piggy take series off, mentally not honed in like Brady. He isn't bright, but that whiplash arm has kept food on the table. He was once a catcher for Clayton Kershaw, they always say that. Tigers should draft him.
