This is not about Goff's accuracy! He is a serviceable QB that can win games with talent around him. Because of this brilliant trade the Lions will finally have the resources to bring talent to this team with extra salary cap money, two first-round picks, and a third-round pick. Lions have a future while the Rams are FUCKED for a very long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Goff is no different than Scott Mitchell
Any average QB can make the playoffs with a great team around him. But he is not the future he is a stop gap. And the trade was a great trade, the Rams are fucked. We are already seeing Stafford self implode, and McVey's offense has been figured out. I see the whole McVey/Stafford thing ending badly. The Lions do need to draft a QB this off season.
Also, the Lions have to pay Jared Goff 40+ million dollars over the next 2 seasons(1 of which he likely won’t even be here for). Not sure where the cap relief portion is coming from.
Also the Lions haven’t really had cap issues for a while.
They always seem to be one of the top teams in dead cap money though and that's not good. Things start to look a lot better in 2023 - they can cut Goff loose and save $25M. The Goff restructure really hurts but my understanding is they kind of had no choice thanks to the previous regime.
I mean they did and they didn’t. It’s not like they were aggressive in FA. That said I’m not too worried about his deal, I just find it funny Tech is excited about cap flexibility when they won’t really have any more than they’ve had the last 6-7 years until 2023 and Goff carries a bigger cap hit. And honestly I don’t want 90 or 100 million in cap space. That’s pretty much a guarantee you don’t have good players on your roster.
And you are usually going to be high in dead cap when you blow up your front office and staff every 5 years and overhaul the roster.

True, but whatever the reason, you're at a huge disadvantage compared to other teams when 34% of your salary cap is on players not on the active roster.
(Not so) fun fact - the Lions currently have 29 players counting against the salary cap that aren't on the active roster or even practice squad. 5 of them NEVER EVEN PLAYED A DOWN with the Lions. One of them (Bullock) has been one of the better kickers in the NFL this year.

Of course, but this isn’t unique to the Lions. It’s what happens when you blow up a team and start over. Everyone knew this was going to happen when they got rid of Quinn and Patricia and Stafford asked to be traded. It’s an issue if it’s happening 2 years from now.

Well, I think the fact that this has been a regular pattern for at least the last 20 years is pretty unique to the Lions.

That’s what I was getting at with the “when you change your front office every 5 years”.

The Lions current dead cap is almost $70 million. Next year it is like $8 million. They will have at least $50 million to play with in the offseason by cutting Flowers (which is most certain). They could just cut bait with Goff altogether and take the hit in '22 and then go all-in in '23 with a new rookie QB and built up team via the draft. But that is putting a lot of stock into Holmes and Campbell doing things right.

I finally see a light at the end of the tunnel, 2023 is right around the corner! The Lions will have money and draft picks! That is a perfect blueprint to build a champion caliber team.

IF.... the GM and coaching staff can put it all together. I agree tho, they are positioned to be in really good shape 2023 and beyond IF they can bring in the right players and coaches have their shit together.
man, i wish we had the original to look back at some of the dumb shit that was said...lol
I curious what guys like Tech and blog say now...they spent over a decade saying this guys a bust, you cant win with him, hes overpaid, hes the reason the lions suck, etc to all their family, friends, aquaintances, coworkers, basically anyone that will listen to them and have now been proven wrong...what bullshit gets spewed now? Love to see that excuse machine...
piggy face is a bust, piggy face was always a bust- goff is a better QB than piggy face/ you can do more with less. two playoffs games Stafford tried to give the game away but got lucky. Had all stars everywhere on both sides of the wall. no we have a top-heavy LA Rams team, that is 100 times more talented than the lions last year and Matt is doing what we thought he would. he’s going to surreptitiously blame the injury in a very sneaky way like he always does. The only way for the Rams to go is down! And it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. PF
really pathetic you have such hatred for stafford. rams will win tbeir division. one game isnt the whole season.
anyone want to bet the Rams will definitely not win their division. At the end of the season you guys can put this in my face!
It’s not that I hate Stafford, it’s just that I could see from day one that we were going to never do anything positive with this guy at the helm. Ruin my team since 2009
Stafford lacks that killer instinct. He won it all already. Now he coasts. It's just how he works. He is NOT a Tom Brady type, who is a killer. Matthew in his mind, proved his critics wrong. Now he's just camping. He is a good QB, but I'm going with blog on this. The Rams over the long haul, got the short end of the schtick.
If he wins it all again in two years or so after people get on him, I will eat this post. But I don't think the Rams repeat.
I wonder how many other QBs lead the league in INTs and also won the superbowl? Just goes to show how good that team was. Not taking anything from what Stafford done, but let's not act like he carried that team to the promise land last year. He made the plays he had to, but he had to make a lot less plays and overcome less obstacles versus any Lions roster he was on. The roster isn't nearly as good this season and we may see things start to implode.

Okay if the Rams don't win their division, I'll buy you a box of tampons, and gummy bears for you to throw at the TV every time Matt Stafford makes you upset.

four touchdowns and five interceptions in two games. that’s your piggy face that you love so much. he has a much superior talent laden Super Bowl winning team than the lions. goff finally has scant weapons and he can do much more with much less than Mr. Stafford.

I just don’t like posting after stinky cheese. The smell is rubbing off on me nose
