I won't say I called it, but I called it. Look for some scrub Safety in the 3rd that won't see the field. What a cluster fuck of a draft. Like I have been saying, Helen Keller could make better picks than the Lions.
I hope I’m wrong, but this feels incredibly dumb. Like we think we’re way smarter than everyone else.
Or BB led Patricia to believe they were really high on him when they really weren't.
Strikes me more as being so married to system they’re looking for traits more than players. Saw some writers talking about how Bush talked about moving Davis to the Hightower role if he was drafted and referencing this pick as if that would be result of this. Except everything I’ve read says this guy can’t cover and struggles in space. Maybe they see him in the Hightower role.
I don’t know, hope I’m wrong but this seems like a major reach. I didn’t know what to make of Tracy Walker and he definitely flashed some potential, so we’ll see I guess.

Jahlani Tavai - Never heard of him. Most pundits have him as a 4th or 5th round pick primarily backup/special teams player. Holy shit has Quinn lost his mind.

Definitely a smartest guy in the room pick.
I really can’t make any judgement on this guy as I have never seen him play. and based on the fact that he plays out in Hawaii, I am guessing a lot of the pundits haven’t either.

I’ve found some that were fans. Said lack of Senior Bowl and combine hurt him.
They said they thought he was going on day 2, but they still thought this was early. Hope Lions are right on this one.
This was a solid pick in fact I like it better than the 1st round. This kid would not have lasted to the 3rd round in my book. He could play ILB in a 3-4 and can play LB in the 4-3 at any position. He can blitz and can be a solid LB and let Davis move to the outside where he probably would be more productive. Having played LB I can tell you this was a very Patriot type pick. That Pats D relies as much on LB's as it does any position. Now if the Lions are looking for a new coach that probably means these draft pick did not work out. But to me Linebacker and TE where probably the two most needed positions on the team. But these kids need to play day one and be making a strong impact by mid season. The Lions filled holes on the D line with Snacks and in free agency. They picked up a TE in a new O that is going to run a lot of two TE sets and they picked up a TE who can block in FA. I am way down on taking a top 10 TE but they filled much needed holes. James and Hockenson are like getting another O linemen.
Let me be the 1st to say I have watched a lot of what New England has done over the years and their D is special and if it can be duplicated Patricia is the guy to do it. They know how to use players and they do with players what they do well. The Lion's have always tried to make players fit the system and the Pat;s seem to try to get players and put they where they fit in the system and they is why Van Noy went from a bust with the Lions to a staple on a Superbowl winning team. The Lions D got better as the year when on and showed improvement across the board everywhere on the D.
All that said if they do not have a top 10 to 15 D at the end of this year and at least 9 wins Patrica will be on the hot seat and on his way out in 2020.

I just keep holding on to Tracy Walker as a guy they identified and loved and has shown signs of why.
Walker was not playing bad ball at the end of the year and that is why I think they let Quinn walk. Quinn was having trouble picking up the D or just getting old fast and Walker was getting better.
They are going to go with some Combo of Diggs , Walker and Willson with Killabrew as a close to the line safety in a NASCAR package. Remember that Pat's D runs 50% Nickel and and probably only 25% base D. I think they Drafter a down hill ILB to fill holes push the run outside and let the DB's and OLB work. Davis is fast and would be a much better WS backer in my book.
I lerked around for many moons on the new board but had to chime in on a linebackers since that is what I played at Ohio State. Backers hold a soft place in my heart.

3 safety looks were part of package last year. I don’t think Killebrew is part of the plan. I could acutally see them taking a Safety in draft. I could see them moving Davis to more of the Hightower role to allows him to blitz more, something he did well last season. My concern is still with a D that like to be as multiple as possible and use a variety of fronts they’re still limited by coverage some because they’re not going to get it from LB’s. Crossers killed them last season and this won’t do anything to solve that problem, though I think it could help them more in regards to run D and blitz packages.
The YouTube scouting report.... this is a bigtime reach.
Dont expect him to play right away, very raw. Lots of bad angles, but he has the physical tools to be developed. Edge guy, can move well, seems decent in coverage. But very raw and very underwhelming, not much going in the WTF conference they are in out west besides highschool pass happy schemes, little hard to evaluate on limited film.
It's a head scratcher, kinda weird spot to take a developmental player.

Do me a favor a watch some film on him. Looks like a reach to me. I think here you get a guy that may play some snaps in his first yeat. The film was very underwhelming and seems they are looking at his physical make up. I like Backers too, but not seeing anything stand out on the film.
