I don’t mind a measured approach early in the rebuild either. I had more of an issue of running it back with mostly the same guys after signing them to one year deals last year. Been kind of a mix bag on results with that. Still hard to be to mad about low risk signings.
I know there’s been rumors they were in on a couple big FA’s over the first couple years, but I’d assume now that they’ve built a foundation and are showing to be more of a destination, they might be a little more aggressive.

The Kicker situation was definitely a big miss.
It would be much easier to know if our kicker was a long term solution if we ever actually allowed him to attempt a field goal. We've attempted 12 fg's on the season and 23 4th down attempts. Granted, not every 4th down attempt was within FG range, but a bunch of them have been.

They see these guys beyond game situations. If they thought they had a long term kicker they wouldn’t cycle through so quickly and would stick with them. I don’t want major investment, but they’ve kind of thrown darts at the wall.
The Lions also punt near the bottom of the league in attempts, but didn’t hesitate to lock up Jack Fox.
I'm not sold on QB class. If you can get Jalen Carter in the middle, that would be huge. If Will Andersen is there because the Rams stunk it up (they are jumping to top 4 after this weekend), grab him. With our pick, go get a strong LB like Sewell from Oregon or Ringo, the CB from Georgia. With the second rounders, grab the best OG in the draft and with the other pick, find another receiver/tight end. Just my thoughts. I'm not a huge fan of this class.
They will likely have two top 10 picks. Rams are decimated. Do not draft a QB 1st round, Goff is good enough(dont care for him though). They need to go D with the 1st 2 picks, this D is the reason they have not won more games, it is that simple.

With 2 top 10 picks they could trade one of them to garner additional draft picks. Some very nice rb's to be had in the 3-4 round. DL and DE/LB are needed. Some DB's too. Never hurts to draft additional OL in the early rounds. Depending on how the J. Williams rollout goes, Lions look pretty decent at WR. TE maybe in the middle rounds. 8 Picks. 5 in the first 3 rounds. Based on this year's defense. That should be the focus.
First round: Lions own pick First round: Rams pick Second round: Lions own pick Second round: Vikings pick Third round: Lions own pick Fifth round: Lions own pick Sixth round: Lions own pick Sixth round: Broncos pick
I don't know, I think LB might be a bigger need, but it's close.
agree that its close...but look what the D did the other week when mcneil dominated...
Yea, I think the fact that we only have like 3 healthy ones on the roster probably makes DT the bigger need.
Then again, I think we have at least one really good one and another who is at least serviceable (they're both better than their numbers suggest). If we only had a serviceable MLB ...

They're all pretty close. With the draft, I'm sure a lot will depend on what they can address in free agency (some good LBs might be available).
LB has moved down quite a bit for me. Rodriguez obviously looks like a keeper and Barnes has been good for 4-5 weeks in a row. Still time for that to go wrong and need depth, but you really only have 2 on the field the majority of plays. Also just don’t think off ball LB is as valuable as the other 2.
After today's games, the Rams pick is 3rd overall. Lions pick is currently 12th.
itll be interesting to see where it all falls...i mean, some of those bottom teams may not go qb, steelers, bears come immefiately to mind, broncos unlikely...so rams pick could actually be traded down a few spots and still get a qb?

I think the teams that need a QB will end up at the top either by record or by trade. That said, there are also several top prospects so you might still be able to grab one in the teens. The interesting one is Hooker who tore his ACL. He might fall to round 2 and could be a fit for the Lions as they could go with Goff one more year. Not crazy about his age though, especially if he sits a year.

The 2023 NFL draft just might be shaping up as a Lions "Wildest Dreams Draft". The Lions will face the yearly draft "QB Pandoras box" as a host of these athletic QB's are up for grabs. They avoided this last year with Willis. While Willis may yet end up as a good player, he isn't ready for prime time yet. Then there is Justin Fields. We could have drafted him but I think while he has shown some incredible ability to run the ball his passing chops might never get there. Defenses will adapt these guys like Watson, Jackson, Fields. NFL coaches will do a "Bill Belichick" on these teams and take away their runs and make them pass. But that is kind of where the game is going, at least for now. I trust Holmes to build the team through the draft as I struggle to come up with a recent Lions FA signing that has worked out at all.
