That’s fair. Though if the front office has the conviction to take him in the 8-12 range, I’d guess they’d just take him at 6.
Maybe, but I would hope they have the flexibility to "go with the flow" and not lock in on a specific player and take the value as it comes to them.
I agree. Just when you’re talking about drafting a QB, kind of a different animal. Has there ever been a team that’s traded back in the top 10 and then drafted a QB?

Actually a really good question. Can't think of a time that happened, at least in the first round. I like to think Brad won't let that influence his decision.
If he doesn't that could still be good for the Lions - if 4 QBs go in the top 5, Carter or Anderson will be there.
Yeah the more teams wanting QB’s the better either pushes Anderson or Carter down or creates big trade market.
This would be the best case scenario for the Lions. Kind of like Sewell falling to them in 2021.
But that would require either the Bears or Cardinals to trade back to 7 or further. Neither of those teams are taking a QB. But I also realize that some guys who are not being considered top 10 will work there way up to top 5. Looking at some mock drafts from last Feb before the combine are kind of ridiculous in hindsight (Malik Willis at #3 overall).
I don't get the Lions taking a DE talk at all...You have Hutch, he showed enough to make you think you have 1 DE position on lock. Then you have a handful of guys that all did well oat the other DE spot. But more than that...you dont build a team paying 2 top DEs, so that means you either let hutch go in 4 yrs or the other in 5 yrs...in their prime....that just doesnt make sense to me, especially when you need CBs, DTs, LBs and honestly, a minimum of 1 safety...So even if Anderson is there at 6, I really cant see Lions taking him...

I don't disagree with the sentiment but Anderson is probably the best player in the draft, so if he is there you take him without hesitation. But he won't be there at 6 so I don't see them taking an edge guy, at least not at 6. Wilson or Murphy might be in play at 18 though.
This is really a joke. Carter wasn't driving the vehicle that crashed and killed the 2 people. This will not affect his draft status at all. Yeah, maybe he was 'Hot rodding" with the other car. Misdemeanor charges if they can prove it. Was he reckless and involved with the other car crashing?. That is a big is, unless the two surviving people from the deadly car crash rat him out. People are predictably upset at the loss of life from loved ones. I smell some kind of cash grab on this one though.

There had been some character concerns brought up before. I don’t think this issue by itself really does much, but I’d imagine it will make teams dig even deeper to see if there are issues.
Would have to be a lot there though. Titans took Jeffery Simmons in the first with video of him hitting a woman.
so if by chance Carter drops to 6 do we take him? the charges against him are misdemeanors.
Good question. Just saw a Mock that had him fall to the Steelers at 17..... His teammate (ringo) when asked, didn't come out and say he's a great guy, he was like "I have nothing to comment on my teammates, except to those who are given much, much is also expected" so I don't know this guy could be a Suh type of player with both skill and that polarizing personality.
top 2 QBs in this years draft ..... Richardson, Young. Young could be there at 6. and he would be exellent despite his height. i would love for richardson to be at 6 for the lions but he will likely go 1 or 2 in draft. so that leaves us young.
Anthony Richardson could be this year's Malik Willis just with a rising not falling draft stock. One great game in his college career the rest mediocre to bad I'm not touching him in the 1st round.
#6 seems like a spot to take DL Carter if he slipped would be nice. #18 is interesting because I can see CB being the need but a luxury pick like OL or RB could be on the table for me depending on what's available, no harm is continuing to invest in the team's identity which is running and protecting the QB.

Richardson will over valued by fans. He just isn't very polished. People see Hurts, Fields, Lamar and think this guy is them. I have questions about his accuracy and think he would fail if thrown into the fire immediately.
too me, this is a Young and Stroud QB draft class everyone else is secondary. People hate Stroud because he isn't mobile, but he could be the best passer in this draft.

Everything I’ve seen about Richardson’s accuracy lies in his footwork. Coaches will think that’s fixable. He has elite traits and supposedly is high character. Someone is gonna fall in love with him and take him top 10. Definitely has to go to the right situation.
Stroud is the most natural passer of the group. I think he’s gonna be a good QB. Only thing that worries me is his pocket presence. Which is why Bryce Young is in the argument for #1, next level in the pocket. Only issue is sometimes he drifts too deep which I’d imagine is due to his height.

Every Year, One of these "Wunderkind" emerge. And some team usually bites. Willis went earlier than I would have picked him. And Willis may very well develop. But not for a few years. Titans are wise to sit him and let him get some seasoning. You read stories where the Bears are considering taking a QB #1 and dumping Fields. Thats laughable. Never ending QB circular firing squad. Grass truly does look greener I guess.

Yeah it's definitely looking like if the Lions want Richardson, they're gonna have to take him at 6. I liked it better when he was projected as a later 1st round pick. No way he goes ahead of Bryce though.
For the record, I'm not opposed to taking him at 6. Could blow up in their faces but they still have that #18 pick to soften the blow. They may not have a chance at a potential franchise QB like that for a long time.

This is the part I’m back on forth on. They have a lot ammo and the “just do it next year” idea is a lot easier said then done. Paying Goff what he’ll likely command just doesn’t seem like a good idea for a long term build. But there’s so many factors mixed into it. I definitely lean more towards if they have a QB they want at 6 take him. I know it’s a big risk, but my fear is being the Colts the last few years or the Andy Dalton Bengals, good teams but just didn’t have that QB to get them over the top.

"Just do it next year" is a terrible idea. There are 2 great prospects but unless the Lions completely fall apart (which I suppose is always a possibility), they will not have a shot. This is the year and the timing is perfect with Goff having essentially one more year on his contract and having 5 picks in the top 82. If they think they can work with Richardson take him at 6 and hope for the best. You still have 4 other potential high impact draft picks in a pretty deep draft at certain positions, and most likely the "elite" prospects will be gone by #6..

The only other thing that plays into it is what someone might give up to get there. If you can get a 1st next year, you may have the ammo now to get a QB next year, but I’m not sure there’s a team coming up from that far that you can command that. I also think everyone falls in love with next years group of QB’s and then they fall under heavy scrutiny and it moves to the next years group.
The only defensive guys I really would be pumped to get about are Carter and Anderson and like you said they’re probably gone. A bunch of other guys I like but in the top 10, not gonna be jumping up and down.

Richardson is not plug n play.
Physically he has the tools, if he has the "it factor mentally", in a few years he could be the best QB from the draft by a long margin. Not sure about him mentally. His arm is very strong.
Need to really draft a kicker and how the kicker needs to kickoff and really focus on letting Jack Fox just punt. Glad to have him as a kickoff specialist as well.
