Diggs has been dinged up and not quite as good but that’s still surprising. Not a big return. I figured he could be cut in offseason with Harris being drafted, Harris has actually been decent so maybe that sped up process.
The defense is statistically in the toilet, bottom of the league and you trade away a guy that can play and adds great depth for a 5th round pick??
Moving Diggs, who was due for a significant pay bump from $2.7 million to $5 million in 2020, allows the Lions to save around $3.5 million in cap space heading into next season. As a captain, Diggs was expected to be a key cog in the defense, even more so after the departure of Glover Quin. Yes, he had plenty of missed tackles on the year. However, after being a Pro Bowl alternate just a year ago, Diggs was considered one of the more underrated safeties in the game.
Looks like the Braintrust is mailing it in for this year. No Kerryon........No running game......No Pass Rush......No Run Defense........5-11 looms. Too Bad..., for a moment they had even me fooled. SOL

Guess if he was gone next year anyway no biggie. Seems like maybe they could have gotten a little more though. Have to wonder if it will make Slay more inclined to move on once his contract is up.
Can't believe the Pats gave up a 2nd for Sanu. He's JAG but I'm sure team B/B will make him look like a hall of famer.

They just gave Diggs an extension last year through 2021. This move makes absolutely no sense unless they plan on trading for someone else and using his savings for that.
Otherwise this team is clueless and are giving up just like they did last year after a bad loss at home when they dealt Tate. If they don't get someone else, then they have to trade Marvin Jones, who has one year left on his deal. Christ, look what Atlanta just got for Sanu and Denver for Emmanual Sanders.
Diggs posted a gif of Kermit the Frog screaming, ‘Yay,” a sign that perhaps there was more bubbling beneath the surface than we know, and Slay retweeted that as well.

I don’t know if he’s happy, but Seattle is a good spot for him.
I do wonder if there was some issues with staff. Quintenn Jammer is his brother and he had an interesting tweet after the news broke and Diggs goodbye message had nothing for the coaching staff. Just Ford’s, teammates, and fans.
Like I said before, it’s a Patriots type of move, try to get out and get value before it’s too late. Just wonder if you have the same trust in that locker room Pats have and I do question if the timing was right because I’m not sure that’s max value. Could have made the move in offseason.

LOL, if you said it's a "Patriots type move" in front of me I would kick you in the nuts. You know what a Patriots type move is? Well, let's start with not over paying to keep a DE that we fucking guaranteed a shit load of money.A Patriots move would have been to shore up the TE position last year with at least 1 NFL caliber player so that they wouldn't have to over pay James and use the #8 pick in the draft to get another one. A Patriots type move would have been to pass on Daniels UNLESS you thought that was the piece you were missing to be in the SB. A Patriots type move would be to actually blitz once in a while because we aren't getting any pressure with our front 4. A Patriots type move would be to fire this dumb mother fucker at the end of the season if he can't manage 9 wins. I will argue all day long that Caldwell did more with less. And Austin was WAY better as a DC.

I think my initial reaction was it was a bad move, but maybe Diggs didn't care for the coach and/or GM and wanted out. It not like he has played well or healthy this season. I would guess he would go on to rip it up in Seattle. Because for some reason Quinn releases/trade guy who suck here, but better coaches get them to play well.
Darius Slay is not happy about the Detroit Lions trading away team captain Quandre Diggs. In fact, the Pro Bowl Lions cornerback is not even trying to hide his anger and disgust with the business side of playing in the NFL in general and in Detroit in particular.
In a candid, expletive-laden interview with reporters on Thursday, Slay fired off shot after shot at the only NFL team he’s ever played for.
He sounded like someone who wants out of Detroit. Take this answer when asked if he might be the next to be traded,
“Anybody can get traded, but I personally wouldn’t care, my personal feeling. Like I said, it’s a business. I wouldn’t care. It is what it is, go on about the next day.”
Is he worried about the possibility of being dealt?
“(Expletive) no,” Slay responded sharply. “That’s the last thing I’m worried about. I don’t give a damn, honestly. I don’t. So like I said, I just work. Doesn’t matter where I’m at. If I’m here, if I’m somewhere else. I just go to work.”
When asked about the Lions secondary after dealing Diggs, the team’s starting safety and emotional leader of the defense, Slay once again did not hold back his contempt for the situation.
“(Expletive), I don’t know. I mean, everybody in here probably got a job to do and they got to do it. Gotta keep pushing, keep it going. Like I said, we need to win. I don’t know what else there is to it.”
Slay stayed away from the team this summer while seeking a new contract. He is in the penultimate season of a 4-year, $48 million extension he signed just before the 2016 season. The Lions refused to do anything with the contract.
It sure sounds like he isn’t all that interested in signing for a longer stint with the Lions anymore. Slay had this to say about his relationship with GM Bob Quinn and head coach Matt Patricia,
“I ain’t talking to neither one of them about that. That’s they problem. I’m working. That’s all I do. I work. It’s not no kind of relationship or nothing like that. Just I’m here. I work here. It’s my job. I got to do my job.”
Well, slay can get traded. Ford did dam good while slay was hurt. So getva high draft pick for slay. Next contract will likely be Slays last. Let somebody else over pay him.
I don’t know if he’s happy, but Seattle is a good spot for him.

Agree. It’s a patriot type move and I’m fine with it. And most likely Slay is next. Which I’m fine with too.

Not at all Diggs has missed a lot of tackles. He’s a liability. Got something for him while we can. Great move. His style of play will shorten his career and he might win a SB in Seattle. win win fo4 everyone. Get used to it. We won’t be hanging onto players until there’s nothing left. The patriots built a dynasty trading players and getting draft picks. Love the move.

Do they have the trust in the locker room the Patriots have? If they don’t a move like this could create a big problem.
